His kit kinda counters the bear, matchup is playable if he's running grasp but if he goes lethal tempo you'll mostly just get stat-checked no matter what.
Matchup can be played at lower elos but i would still recommend this to be your main ban.
Jayce
Very hard to gap close and even then you can get stat-checked. This champ is just crazy op ATM. Still playable with lucidity if you play around flash timings. Really hard lane overall but you tend to outscale a bit if you go even
Heimerdinger
Not much you can do, if you engage on him you get insta one shot.
Play passiv and hope your team will carry
Teemo
Obviously one of volibear's worse matchups, his blind kinda counters your champ since you can no longer Q him.
Go grasp + W max since W does go through his blind somehow.
Poppy
She hard beats you early on but when you get alot of MS you start to win hard. You gotta survive until then.
Aatrox
Fake melee, you will most likely trade even HP even if you dodge everything just to get on top of him.
Once you get alot of AH and HP AND MS it gets easier (cosmic/shojin my beloved) somehow
Singed
Really hard to punish his proxy because of your low mobility and a good singed will 1v9 teamfights later on.
You can try to have perfect tempo and play the map just like he does
Akali
A good akali will never let you put a combo on her. I recommand rushing maw or spirit early because her only weakness is when she can't one tap you (running out of energy). But if enemy comp is mostly AD besides her you'r a bit ****ed.
Gwen
Gwen is pretty tough to play against if you play the standard way, but the AD build (and especially the phase rush) is excellent against her.
You can bait her R and run out. Without her R you'll win easily most trades.
Overall pretty hard matchup tho since she scales and snowballs alot harder than you do.
Malphite
Good malphite players will make this matchup impossible to win. They can just Q whenever you run at them and you'll never catch him.
But fortunately malphite players are literal rocks so you'll find a way to capitalize on their mistakes.
Otherwise you can always shove+proxy+play the map like in any tank matchup
Vladimir
Pretty hard to abuse, i think going stride is mandatory to catch up with him. Go lethal tempo or you'll loose all-ins
Gangplank
Skilled matchup basically. You have to play mind games to win this one, his poke reliant but this means you should always win any all-in if you're both full HP
Cassiopeia
Really depends on the cassio's skill level wont lie, matchup can really snowball on each side so i'd recommand to play very early oriented setup
Gnar
Annoying matchup at first, i was struggling alot when starting but then i got the feel of it. You basically play lucidity, flash whenever he is mini-gnar. And then you play around flash CD to kill him. If you have no R/Flash you just gotta respect it.
Dr. Mundo
He hard outscales you because of the nature of his kit. Pretty hard to punish early on because of his passive. I'd recommend either ignoring him completely and trying to roam mid/jgl. And try to force every objective early on before he gets to really shine
K'Sante
Very annoying champ, never dies, have an anti-cc on a very low CD, he can pull you out of your E and you're cooked. My advice is trying to bait is W before trying to combo.
Matchup is still playable, you R out of his R and you can then win if he's not in ult form.
Darius
This matchup is really "skilled", you can both kill each other, but he tends to outscale you if you go for standard builds, i'd recommend going some HP stacking type of build, it'll make his R way less threathning.
Ambessa
Very annoying to play against because she's really hard to catch. Once you get stride you can just win any all-in with lethal. Try to focus on dodging her Q/ not giving her free grasp procs
Fiora
It's kinda bear favored. You have to practice and you'll have the feeling to either bait or anticipate her parry.
I'd recommend doing a build centered around damage since she does %hp true dmg anyways.
Slows are really good vs her (stride/iceborn)
Kennen
Pretty similar to the gnar matchup, but he's a bit weaker overall.
Gragas
Skilled matchup, you can buffer both Q and W in his E if timed well.
You can never rly kill him but he can never rly kill you either so it's farm matchup mostly
Kled
Same logic as illaoi and gragas, if you dodge E you can run him down pretty easily. But if he hits you'll 100% loose the trade so buy MS early on.
Garen
Garen is really hard to kill and i tend to recommend playing like a tank matchup, you shove wave and try to impact the map before he can scale
Camille
This matchup is no big deal, you can just tank her combo whenever she engages, and then you play lethal + max Q = She's dead and homeless.
Gotta respect her lvl 1 and farm with E from max range, at lvl 2 you win any all-in as long as you get your combo off
Illaoi
This matchup is only hard if she hits E. You can go for MS based builds with cosmic drive to play around her tentacles.
Renekton
You max W and he can never really do anything. Be aware that his emp W insta breaks shields. If he somehow gets a lead it gets very tricky tho so be carefull
Riven
Max W for the win, rush iceborn and she's completely ****ed
Irelia
She can never kill you, you just stat-check her for most of the game, just be patient with your combo or she'll just dash out of it.
Olaf
Olaf win all-ins but then you go phase rush and champ does not exist anymore
Shen
On paper he's kinda like jax and teemo, but in reality you win most extended trades with you W, you just gotta be patient and not throw everything in his W.
Mordekaiser
You win most extended trades with lethal tempo and you can R his R if timed properly it will cancel it.
Be aware that his ult makes your E disapear if you cast it just before, got solokilled multiple times because of it.
Trundle
You can just W-E-AA-Q-AA and he can never really trade back.
Don't play all-ins unless you can kill with ignite and you're good
More or less the same as warwick basically.
Yorick
Fairly easy matchup, you can just max Q and go lethal tempo and run him down.
Kayle
Kayle is only hard if you let her scale past 30min.
You can basically shove every wave and combo her under tower then run out and there's nothing she can do about it.
Repeat until you can dive and she'll be 0/5 by min 10.
Nasus
His W is annoying but you can bully him so much when he goes for CS that doesnt even matter really.
Either perma dive him or shove into freeze, he cannot really play in either way
My name is Enzo, but you might know me better by my online alias, Azzinoth
I was a Rengar main since Season 6, initially focusing on AD/Jungle Rengar.
However, since this season, I've transitioned to playing Volibear in the top lane.
Achievements
I managed to reach Master 200LP on EUW (Went from Emerald 4 to Master in only one season)
