Lets farm!

In your laning phase concentrate on your farm. Whenever enemies poke you use your E/W/Q to sustain damage. This rune setup is for infinite sustain so you can take a high amount of damage before returning to base. Focus on landing your Q's. They heal you for 5% of your missing health every time you hit a champion. Use your E wisely. Your E has 20 seconds initial cool down. so if you miss your E there is a high chance of getting poked. Use your E only when they engage and you have a clear shot. Each time your tentacle smashes you heal some amount.
Use your auto to take advantage of Grasp of undying.

Why max Q?

R>Q>E>W
Why max Q?
Your Rune+Q healing = Infinite lane sustain. Time your Q right and you are always healed for missing health. Q also increases your tentacles damage. So W does more damage when you use your E.

Max E second to reduce the cooldown
Your items help you in reducing your CDR on W and hence max it last. Your ultimate also reduces your CDR on W.
If you follow this build your CDR on W is approx 1.1s when you Leap of faith.

How to use your ultimate. Will this rune work?

Here's the trick with this rune. As an illaoi you should always hit R after a successful E. Helps you spawn an extra tentacle. You use your R when you are down to 1/4 of your health. Trust me on this. Trust on her damage. The moment you hit R you will see your stats move from 1/4 to 1/2 or 3/4 based on total number of enemies your tentacles smashes. You get increased damage from last stand and your tentacles already do a crazy amount of damage. Lure your enemies. Bring them to a mindset where they are blinded to kill you. This also helps to cast your E before you R. Use your Q+W combo perfectly.
Grasp of undying + Last stand + R = "Behold!"
PS: Do not use this strategy against champs like Darius and Garen.
