Pros + Unique playstyle + High outplay potential + Strong mobility + Great engage tools + Strong skirmisher + Flexible ultimate usage Sylas has a dash, gap closer, and crowd control that let him stick to targets and create aggressive plays. If compared to another champion, he shares some similarities with Ekko through mobility and playmaking. His burst damage is strong, and Hijack allows him to adapt to every game by stealing key enemy ultimates. In the jungle or lane, he can create deadly ganks and skirmishes with his engage tools and damage output.

Cons - Takes time to master - Weak into ranged poke - Often commits fully in trades - Can be punished when abilities are down - Squishy when behind Sylas can be difficult to learn because many trades require full commitment. Once you go in, you often use your mobility and cooldowns, which can leave no easy escape if the fight turns bad. He is also vulnerable to ranged poke in lane. It is worth practicing him before ranked so you learn his limits, matchups, and how to use Hijack effectively.

SUMMONER SPELLS - Flash: Flash is the most standard summoner spell in League of Legends, and almost never worth replacing. It gives playmaking, escape, and combo potential, making it the best overall option. Ignite: Ignite is great if you want stronger kill pressure in lane. Take it top lane when you want to dominate 1v1 fights, snowball early, and punish healing champions. Teleport: Teleport is the safest and most consistent top lane choice. It improves map impact, split pushing, lane resets, TP flanks, and lets you support fights across the map.

SUMMONER SPELLS - Flash: Flash is the most standard summoner spell in League of Legends and almost never worth replacing. It gives engage, escape, and combo potential, making it the best overall option. Ignite: Ignite is great for lane pressure and aggressive play. It increases kill threat, helps cut healing, and lets you punish the enemy mid laner harder when ahead. A strong choice if you want to snowball early. Cleanse: Cleanse is very strong against heavy crowd control teams or champions like Twisted Fate. It can save you from chain ganks and lockdown, giving you a much better chance to survive difficult matchups.

SUMMONER SPELLS - Flash: Flash is the most standard summoner spell in League of Legends and almost never worth replacing. It gives engage, escape, and combo potential, making it the best overall option. Ignite: Ignite is excellent for lane pressure and aggressive play. It helps punish the enemy bot lane, adds kill pressure in 1v1 situations, and gives extra burst in 2v2 fights. A great option in most games. Exhaust: Exhaust is strong into burst champions or fed carries. It can swing 2v2 fights by heavily reducing the enemy ADC's damage output and making engages much safer.

Playing Sylas jungle, you want to start with your E. This is because it gives you access to two procs of your passive, which results in higher early damage compared to starting Q.

When ganking lanes, Sylas has multiple options depending on distance, setup, and enemy position.

Standard engage:
E → Q (max range) → E → W

This gives you strong burst and applies the slow from Chain Lash. Always try to weave in at least one auto attack after each ability, since Petricite Burst adds a significant amount of extra damage.

Alternative engage:
E → W → E → Q

This is a more aggressive all-in pattern. Again, always weave auto attacks between spells to maximize passive damage.

You can also hold Hijack for the right moment instead of instantly using it. Sometimes stealing an ultimate before the fight and using it later gives you more value than using it immediately.

In mid and late game, Sylas often plays as a follow-up champion, but he is not limited to only that role. His playstyle changes heavily depending on which ultimate he steals.

For example, stealing a Neeko ultimate turns you into a strong engage threat, giving you AoE crowd control, damage, and survivability through shields and disruption. This can completely change how fights play out, allowing you to dive into the enemy team and force chaos.

Overall, Sylas becomes a flexible teamfight champion whose impact depends heavily on timing, positioning, and the ultimate he has access to.

Pathing as Sylas is fairly simple, and in most cases you just mirror your route depending on which side of the map you start on.

A standard fast level 3 clear is:

This gives you the quickest access to level 3, allowing you to look for early ganks as soon as possible.

You can also mirror this depending on your starting side:

This is useful if you want to path toward the opposite side of the map for an early gank setup.

When playing early game, always consider your matchup in the jungle. If the enemy jungler wins the 1v1, avoid contesting them directly. Do not force the same Scuttle if you are weaker — instead trade sides or look for lanes to gank.

After taking Scuttle, you can often immediately look for a gank, especially since your early tempo is strong.

Your level 2 is surprisingly strong as Sylas, since you already have access to E + Q. This gives you engage, crowd control, slow, and damage, allowing you to catch enemies off guard and potentially secure an early kill.

Sylas is not the strongest laner early on, and in many matchups you will need to play safe. Staying under your turret and focusing on farm is often the best option until you get jungle assistance.

You are very good at setting up ganks because of your gap closer and crowd control, so always look for opportunities to coordinate with your jungler.

Once you reach level 6, the lane can completely change. With Hijack, you gain access to the enemy ultimate, which often allows you to turn fights and potentially outplay your opponent.

To survive the early game, sustain tools like Grasp of the Undying and Kingslayer help you stay healthy through poke and trades.

Once laning phase ends, Sylas becomes much more impactful. This is where you start to actively look for plays.

Your main strength is stealing powerful enemy ultimates and using them against their team. Try to play around skirmishes with your jungler or group with your team for fights where your stolen ultimate can decide the outcome.

In the late game, you generally do not want to split push. Instead, stay grouped with your team and look for teamfights.

At this stage, you are durable enough to survive extended fights while still dealing strong damage. With low cooldown on Hijack, you can consistently steal impactful ultimates and repeatedly change the outcome of fights.

Your win condition is simple: find the right ultimate, engage at the right moment, and turn fights in your team’s favor.

Playing Sylas you have to keep in mind that you are melee, and most of your matchups are against ranged champions. This means that whenever you go for trades or poke, you will naturally push the wave closer to the enemy tower, which also increases the distance you need to retreat afterward.

Because of this, wave state and map awareness are extremely important. Always check your minimap before committing to any fight. Ask yourself:

- Where is your jungler?
- Where are enemy champions missing?
- Can the enemy support roam mid?
- Do you have information on the enemy jungler?

If you know where everyone is, you can usually take fights safely. If you don’t, you must assume danger is nearby and decide whether the risk is worth it or if you should wait for more information.

When laning as Sylas, you want to poke with Chain Lash as much as possible. It is your main ranged ability and helps you soften enemies before committing.

Once the enemy is low enough, you can look for an all-in using Abscond / Abduct or Kingslayer to get into melee range. After that, use your full combo and always try to weave in auto attacks between abilities to trigger Petricite Burst for maximum damage.

In mid and late game, your playstyle depends heavily on which ultimates you have access to through Hijack.

Instead of stealing randomly, always think about what the enemy team comp is offering. Some ultimates are far more valuable depending on the situation, so choosing correctly can decide fights.

When pushing lanes, you are very vulnerable to ganks. Always play toward areas where you have vision or where your jungler can support you.

- If topside river is warded → play topside
- If botside river is warded → play botside
- If you have no vision → play safer or move toward your jungler

Good vision control allows you to play aggressive without dying to unseen ganks.

If you have vision on topside river, you should position yourself toward that side. The same rule applies for botside — always align your positioning with where you have information.

Playing Sylas support is quite different compared to traditional supports. He sits in a hybrid category between champions like Ekko, Pyke, and Nautilus, meaning your playstyle is a mix of engage, skirmishing, and roaming rather than pure peel or enchanter gameplay.

In lane, your main tool for trading is Chain Lash. You want to poke whenever possible, but you also need to respect that you will be taking damage back from the enemy ADC and support.

The key rule is simple: do not get too low.

If you fall behind in HP, you lose your ability to threaten all-ins, which removes most of your pressure as Sylas support.

Good trading patterns come from timing and awareness:

- Use Q when the enemy ADC goes for a last hit or auto attack trade
- Punish enemy supports when they step up to poke
- Look for short burst trades when enemies are mispositioned
- You can all-in squishy supports if they overextend

The goal is not constant fighting — it is controlled aggression while staying healthy enough to threaten engages.

One of the biggest strengths of Sylas support is roaming, similar to Pyke.

You should actively look for roam timers, especially:

- After resetting and moving back to lane
- When your ADC is safe under tower
- When enemy bot lane is missing or pushed in
- When your jungler is contesting river or mid

Instead of always returning straight to bot lane, you can path through your jungle and influence mid lane or help your jungler in skirmishes.

As the game progresses, Sylas support transitions into a disruptive frontline damage dealer.

You are no longer just a roamer — you become a threat in fights due to your engage potential and Hijack. Stealing the right ultimate can completely change teamfights and make you very hard to deal with.

Overall, Sylas support is about finding the balance between early roaming impact and later fight disruption.

NIGHT HARVESTER Night Harvester is your core jungle damage item. It gives strong burst and fits your playstyle where you are looking to dive in, combo, and quickly delete targets rather than extended 1v1 fights. This is your main first big power spike.

SORCERER'S SHOES Sorcerer's Shoes are the standard boots choice, giving you extra magic penetration and significantly increasing your burst damage early to mid game.

RABADON'S DEATHCAP Rabadon's Deathcap provides a massive AP spike and is your best raw damage scaling item. Once completed, your combos become extremely threatening to any squishy target.

ZHONYA'S HOURGLASS Zhonya's Hourglass is extremely important for survivability. It allows you to extend fights, dodge key abilities, and create outplay potential when diving into the enemy team.

MORELLONOMICON Morellonomicon is a strong utility damage item that gives AP, health, and Grievous Wounds. It is especially useful against healing-heavy compositions. You can also sit on Oblivion Orb early and upgrade later.

LICH BANE Lich Bane synergizes very well with Sylas since you naturally weave auto attacks between abilities. This significantly increases your burst and makes your combo rotations much more lethal.

SORCERER'S SHOES Sorcerer's Shoes are a standard damage boots option, giving you extra magic penetration to increase your burst potential and snowball faster in fights.

MERCURY'S TREADS Mercury's Treads are very valuable into heavy CC or AP compositions. They help you avoid being chain-locked, allowing you to actually play fights instead of getting perma CC’d.

PLATED STEELCAPS Plated Steelcaps are the best option into heavy AD or auto-attack based teams. Especially strong against ranged tops or crit-based carries.

HEXTECH PROTOBELT-01 Hextech Rocketbelt gives you extra burst, wave pressure, and another gap closer. It synergizes very well with Sylas and helps you stick onto targets.

LICH BANE Lich Bane greatly increases your burst damage since Sylas naturally weaves auto attacks between spells. This makes your combos significantly stronger.

ZHONYA'S HOURGLASS Zhonya's Hourglass is essential for survivability and outplays. It lets you dive, stall key cooldowns, and survive after committing into fights.

MORELLONOMICON Morellonomicon gives AP, health, and Grievous Wounds, making it a strong anti-heal option against sustain-heavy teams.

ROD OF AGES Rod of Ages is a scaling option for more tanky playstyles, giving HP, mana, and AP for extended fights.

ICEBORN GAUNTLET Iceborn Gauntlet is a tanky utility option that provides slows and durability, making you extremely annoying in fights when combined with Sylas crowd control.

SPIRIT VISAGE Spirit Visage increases your healing from Kingslayer and is strong against AP-heavy teams or AP tops.

ABYSSAL MASK Abyssal Mask provides magic resist and mana sustain, and is a strong alternative or pairing with Spirit Visage against heavy AP compositions.

RANDUIN'S OMEN Randuin's Omen is strong against crit and AD-heavy teams, reducing incoming burst and giving you more survivability in fights.

DEAD MAN'S PLATE Dead Man's Plate is another option into AD-heavy teams, giving movement speed and durability, but in most cases Randuin's Omen is the stronger choice.

SORCERER'S SHOES Sorcerer's Shoes are a strong early damage boost, giving you magic penetration to increase your burst and snowball potential in skirmishes.

MERCURY'S TREADS Mercury's Treads are essential into heavy CC compositions. They help you avoid being locked down and allow you to actually play fights instead of getting instantly controlled.

HEXTECH PROTOBELT-01 Hextech Rocketbelt is a key early item for Sylas, giving you an extra gap closer, burst damage, and wave pressure. It significantly improves your engage potential and should usually be prioritized early.

LICH BANE Lich Bane synergizes extremely well with Sylas since you naturally weave auto attacks between abilities. This greatly increases your burst damage and combo efficiency.

ZHONYA'S HOURGLASS Zhonya's Hourglass provides survivability and outplay potential. It allows you to commit into fights, soak cooldowns, and buy time for your team while staying alive in dangerous situations.

MORELLONOMICON Morellonomicon is a strong anti-heal and AP item, giving damage, health, and Grievous Wounds. It is especially valuable against healing-heavy champions and sustain compositions. You can build it after Luden's Echo or Zhonya's Hourglass depending on game state.

LUDEN'S ECHO Luden's Echo is a core burst item that provides AP, mana, and ability haste. It is one of the strongest early power spikes for AP assassins and greatly improves your pick potential and skirmishing damage.

SORCERER'S SHOES Sorcerer's Shoes are a good option if you want extra damage and stronger early trades. They help you snowball fights and increase your kill pressure.

BOOTS OF MOBILITY Mobility Boots are ideal for roaming-focused play. They allow you to move around the map faster, create pressure mid lane, and impact skirmishes before the enemy support can respond.

REMNANT OF THE WATCHERS Remnant of the Watchers is your core support item. Vision control is essential, and this item ensures you can properly ward, control fog of war, and support your team.

HEXTECH PROTOBELT-01 Hextech Rocketbelt is a strong engage tool for Sylas, giving you extra gap closing, burst damage, and surprise all-in potential. It works very well with your roaming playstyle.

ZHONYA'S HOURGLASS Zhonya's Hourglass is extremely valuable for survivability and outplays. It allows you to dive, soak cooldowns, and survive after committing in fights.

LICH BANE Lich Bane greatly increases your burst damage since Sylas naturally weaves auto attacks between abilities. It makes your engages and skirmishes much more threatening.

RABADON'S DEATHCAP Rabadon's Deathcap is a late-game damage option when you transition away from support utility. It massively increases your AP scaling and makes you a real threat in extended games.

Petricite Burst (Passive): After casting an ability, Sylas empowers his next basic attack to swing his chains in an area around him, damaging nearby enemies. Play Video
Chain Lash (Q): Sylas lashes out with his chains, dealing damage and applying a slow. After a short delay, the intersection detonates, dealing additional damage and applying a stronger slow. Play Video
Kingslayer (W): Sylas dashes to a target enemy, dealing damage and healing himself. The heal and damage are increased depending on missing health, making it strong for clutch fights and resets. Play Video
Abscond / Abduct (E): Sylas dashes a short distance and gains a shield. He can recast the ability to throw out chains that stun, damage, and pull him to the first enemy hit. Play Video
Hijack (R): Sylas steals an enemy champion’s ultimate and uses it himself. Enemies can still use their ultimates even after they are stolen. Sylas can only steal from the same target again after a cooldown, so timing and target selection is key. Play Video

To maximize your damage in fights, you should always weave in basic attacks between abilities. Petricite Burst activates after every spell cast, so combining autos with abilities significantly increases your total DPS. This is what turns Sylas from a caster into a bruiser-style skirmisher in extended fights.

When using Hijack, always think before you steal an ultimate. Ask yourself what your team needs right now and what could decide the fight later.

Sometimes a strong finishing ultimate helps you win the current skirmish immediately. Other times, stealing a powerful crowd control or engage ultimate is more valuable for upcoming teamfights.

You also need to consider cooldown management. Once you use Hijack on a target, you cannot steal from the same enemy again for a while, so plan ahead instead of reacting randomly in fights.

There is no need to instantly use every stolen ultimate, but holding it for too long can also waste potential opportunities. Good Sylas players balance patience with aggression and always look for the right timing to turn fights.
