Intro

This build is based around the idea of using your Q as your primary source of damage output. Because of this, we ignore Crit and Attack Speed, and simply build damage, armor pen, CDR, mana, and mana regen. This reason explains just about every decision in the runes, masteries, and item sections of this guide, so I won't go into a more detailed explanation of those.

With Ionian Boots, Spirit of the Elder Lizard, Black Cleaver, and 5% from masteries, you can maxmize CDR and get an extra 7 mana regen, which is usually just enough. Add Last Whisper and two Blood Thirster's to that and you can hit for over 800 damage with Q, not even factoring in blight stacks or the Elder Lizard passive true damage. This is also much easier to hit than poke spells like those of Jayce and Nid, whose spells stop on the first tank or minion that they hit.

This build can be very successful in both bot and mid lane. I actually prefer it in mid lane because you will have constant access to blue buff to help you with mana regen and CDR before you build those stats. If your team has a strong AP threat outside of mid lane, go ahead and play varus mid. Otherwise, this build works well when your mid is not blue dependent.
