nice summoners, runes need some work and skill order is not too hot, he really needs all three skills early, focusing e is okay, but its not much of a nuke so getting it to 5 to get 200ish base damage is not that great, trinity force

Yeah, definitely an AP build since it gets the sorting hat, Lich Bane, and Abyssal Scepter. But that's just splitting hairs.

I really disagree with you getting a Sheen so late. It's a huge source of mid-game damage for relatively cheap. I've give you a comparison by the numbers.

With your runes and masteries and a Hextech Revolver this build has 83 AP by level 10 (for now I'm assuming you haven't finished your gunblade by that point). That means that Ixtal's Impact is hitting for 58.24 bonus damage every 10 seconds. With the same amount of AP, Crystalline Slash is hitting for 33.28 bonus damage every 3.5 seconds or around 100 every 10-ish seconds. I'll assume that you get the same number of autoattacks off using E and Q during this 10 second period. Even if you only hit 2 of the 3 Shattered Earthes, you're still doing more damage with Q than E.

Now let's look at a similar situation with a Sheen instead of a Hextech Revolver (both are very close in price). Because of the 25 AP, your E is still dealing 47.74 bonus damage and your Q 27.28 bonus damage. So let's look at the damage again--in 10 seconds you hit one E and one Sheen proc for 47.74 + 96.1 = 143.84 damage. In the same 10 seconds you hit at least three Shattered Earthes and three Sheen procs for 27.28*3 + 96.1*3 = 369.84 damage. In this situation, you could miss 2 of the 3 Sheen procs and miss 1 of the 3 Q's and still deal more damage than E. Compared to the build where you rush Revolver, you can miss all the Sheen procs and one of the three Shattered Earthes and still do almost the same damage as a Ixtal's Impact with a Revolver (54.56 compared to 58.24).

Sheen is a huge source of damage no matter which skill you max first. You don't even need to land half of the damage it's capable of to still do more than you would without it. To do the same amount of damage with your E that you'd gain from building Sheen, you'd need 137 bonus AP--with your Q you'd need 720.75 bonus AP. The fact that it gives you bonus mana for increased spammability is just icing on the cake.

If you're really that concerned about survivability then by all means, build a Hextech Revolver first. But after that you should build Sheen because it's a far, far cheaper source of additional damage than completing the Gunblade first. If you want any kind of presence in the mid-game, you should at least go Revolver>Sheen>Gunblade if not rushing Sheen first.

I also really don't understand how you think a spammable AoE spell could be hard to land compared to a slow and short-ranged skillshot, especially for a melee champ. It's similar to saying that Amumu's Despair (which has a smaller radius than Shattered Earth) is hard to land. Once you're next to a champion, you'll both be running about the same speed and so they'll constantly be in range of your Q, especially if they're being slowed by it.

Well, xlPainlx, I find the survivability to be a lot easier with Fracture plus that the harassive gameplay can be quite useful aswell. I think that will make it easier for people to start out with Skarener aswell.

I do think that Crystal Slash is one of the key skills but if not using Impale it might be hard to land. But of course, Sheen is a great item and I do build it a little late there, Don't I?

And when yes, I do play pretty defensive in the beginning, Though I tend to harass a lot so that they won't towerdive (That will make an easy gank later) me or such. At level 6 if I got a good laner with me, I try to Impale the enemy and get a kill. I also try getting first blood, Mostly because I'm greedy but I find it fun. Early game action.

Though, I must say that I've seen alot of Skarners Building "Trinity Force" out there and that was just awful, Since you've already got a slow and that you'll have a dps of 600 to just about any opponent because you are hybrid. though I focus on AP. The damage it adds is nice but when you heal yourself for 200/Second with your spellvamp, Lichbane and Fracture. That's of course just my opinion.

I will try building Sheen earlier though.

Why do you rank E over Q with an early sheen Q does a lot of damage. even if E is used for harass you say you play defensive?
