Introduction

So Janna was always meant to be an AP support player right? WRONG!! Janna can also play pretty legit as an AD carry also. Her skills and hey W passive gives her the edge when being an AD Carry. In this guide, I will show you my preferred way to play Janna which I feel is "better" than the traditional AP Janna. I'll be explaining item builds, what to expect out of AD Janna, and how to become one hell of an AD Carry late game. So what are we waiting for? Lets get into the nitty gritty.

Last Update: 12/7/2011 - Rework for Season 2.

Pros / Cons

Pros
Strong late game
Great in team fights
Farms fairly well
Good at harassing at all stages

Cons
Most important con... She needs a lot of farming/good early game
Very squishy at all stages (depends on items)
Can't tolerate high amounts of harass
Can't tolerate stuns
Somewhat skill dependent

Runes

[*] Greater Mark of Attack Damage Atk Damage Marks for a very good early game, these marks with her E can rack up almost 80 damage at only Level 1.
[*] Greater Seal of Vigor Hp/5sec Seals to give her more survivability early game.
[*] Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction Cooldown Glyphs to give you lower times on your spells, which is her main way of chasing and escaping.
[*] Greater Quintessence of Desolation Quints can be anything you want, I chose armor pen for more firepower thru the entire game.

Just a reminder, these aren't set in stone to feel free to pick other things that you feel is more efficient.

Masteries

As shown above, the typical 21/0/9 is what I would recommend for AD Janna. Can be subject to change if you choose different summoner spells but should end up still being similar to the one I put up.

Summoner Spells

Highly Recommended
Ghost - Very useful in any situation as Janna, can get you first blood or can save you from getting killed in a team battle. I find that Ghost is a very useful spell for AD Janna.
Ignite - For that last 100 damage that you couldn't chuck off, ignite is useful at many stages of the game which is why I'd pick ignite as my second spell.

Recommended
Flash - The alternative to ghost, makes you even more deadly however for an extremely shorter amount of time. Flash is very iffy in my opinion because against any debuffers or anyone with teleport skills (such as Akali, Kat, Shaco, etc.)
Exhaust - Another good alternative however swapping in for ignite. This spell is used for controlling other champions rather than purely hurting them (Ignite). Depending on what you need, its pretty much your pick.

To Think About
Surge - Similar to its cousin, Rally, Surge is a viable way to get the extra umpt in early game. However it does fall off later on since you dont need the attack speed anymore. On the bright side, this spell can possibly give you an early advantage if you have any support lane partners similar to , , .
Clairvoyance - I think of this as a support skill, but I feel it can be useful to an Ad Janna also. Not as much as the other spells, but in the right times can help start ganks and help you aim your Howling Gale. Similar to Exhaust, this spell is meant to give you control over the other team.

Skill Sequence

> > >
However you do get level 1 Howling Gale when you get to Level 2 and this is because Howling Gale is a better debuff than Zephyr. It the knock up time doesn't change so that's why we keep it at 1.

Howling Gale - Your main "stun" however it does involve aiming. Using howling gale as an AD carry is slightly different than an AP. First off, you use it not to hurt, but to knock up opponents, which means you would proc it almost instantly after you cast it. WARNING: this means it will have a shorter range so be careful!

Zephyr - It's the slow and semi nuke. At level 5 it does 280 damage, which isn't much but the slow is great. It's passive also gives you movement speed, which is a big bonus to how much it slows at level 5.

Eye of the Storm - Its a shield? NO!!!!. It is your damage buff from now on. This thing is a beast once you max it because it gives 50 damage at level 5. That's right! One temporary BF sword for a couple of seconds and that's all you need as AD Janna to steamroll the other team. This is what makes you strong early game, the damage and the shield together puts up one hell of a fight. Stepping aside from the damage, the shield is also useful to cut down damage taken from who knows what. Overall, put points into this whenever possible because this is Janna's secret weapon.

Monsoon - Great skill in many ways. Not only does it knock away people, it even heals you? Dam, its like you have Alistar riding on your back right? Later in the guide I will discuss the different uses for this skill but for now know that its worth getting as AD Janna.

Items

Must I explain? About 1.9 attack speed, 88% crit plus Infinity Edge passive giving you almost every hit 800+ damage. Don't forget the Black Cleaver passive too. "But wouldn't you be very squis-" THATS WHY YOU HAVE 550+ MOVEMENT SPEED. Yes the full set shown above gives you all these stats and those stats + her skills alone will leave you dominating late game. As i said before, if you do have trouble surviving here are some options you can choose that I recommend.

[*] Swap Black Cleaver or Infintiy Edge with . This way you can still survive and the passive slow compensates the lost damage.
[*] Like what I said before, you can purchase Vampiric Scepter early game in order to last longer in lane to farm.

Gameplay

Early Game (Lv1 - Lv6)
Just keep in mind with your shield you will have 80+ damage. Don't be scared to harass but be cautious of your own hp. Having Doran's Blade means you don't have any HP pots, and that will cost you a lot if you get harassed. Once you get Howling Gale at level 2, you can try to get a kill or even first blood depending on the scenario but be really cautious about your health. Use your shield whenever getting close to an enemy especially the ones that poke ( Dr. Mundo, Pantheon, Caitlyn, etc.) Overall, early game is where start building up your items, not really trying to super awesome dive enemies, leave that to the people that are meant to do that. All you want to do is focus on last hits, using your Shield and Howling Gale to get the advantage on the other team.

Mid Game (Lv6 - Lv12)
If you farmed right and maybe got 1 or 2 kills, you should have Doran's Blade, Cleaver, And your Zerk Boots done by 18-20 minutes in. Not hard yet right? Well mid game is the hell life for AD Janna. You wouldn't be farmed enough to take on a lot of champions during this time because your ultimate isn't really that great as others. You want to ninja your way around lanes, farm up minions, and maybe help get a few kills or at least assists. Shes very fragile during mid game, until you get your Phantom Dancer and Infinite Edge so be careful. Not much to say about late game, but to keep farming and stay on your toes.

Tip: If you're having trouble surviving early and mid game, try buying in order to survive earlier. This trades survivability for dps which isn't a big trade since you'll have to buy it eventually.

Late Game (Lv12 - Lv18)
Now that you got your Infinity Edge and maybe building your second Phantom Dancer, it's time to shine. Make sure to still stay behind your tanks because she still is squishy, but deep down inside is one pissed off storm. When engaged in the team battle, do what AD Carries do best, Auto-attack... lol. Make sure you stay on the sidelines and not in the bunch of chaos because you're bound to meet up with nukers and things that hurt ALOT. Use Howling Gale when you feel like you need to cut off any channels or stop someone from attacking. Use Zephyr to slow down people running away, they won't hurt you, but you'll hurt them. Like most AD carries, you want to help your team stay alive, while killing off the important people first. No she isnt a janitor that cleans up after the team, she's Janna-TORE UP THE WHOLE OTHER TEAM. On a lighter note, a successful AD Janna knows when you use her spells.

Using Monsoon
[*] Pushing enemies away - The most well-known purpose of , but there are different types of pushing away. Either pushing away agro, or making sure someone doesn't harm your team.
[*] "Pulling" enemies in - You can also use it to push people into your team, similar to Alistar. Just use Howling Gale, get behind them and Monsoon.
[*] Healing - Use it to heal teammates. At all levels, it heals a decent amount which can help you sustain a team push.
[*] 1v1 - Use it to push away those melee carries that are trying to 1v1 you. Melee AD carries like Tryndamere and Xin Zhao can hurt you alot, but using Monsoon to push them away and getting 2-3 hits in helps a ton.

Summary

That's basically it for a beast AD Janna got nothing else to say but a few tips.

[*] Keep last hitting and farming.
[*] Don't get too aggressive when on your own early game.
[*] Most of your skills are meant to stop the enemy from either running or attacking you.
[*] AUTOATTACK
[*] RUN AWAY FROM , , , , , , ,
And most importantly, watch out for and .

That's basically it, I'm not saying that AD Janna is better, but it's something i want people to consider because I love playing it honestly more than AP Janna. Hope you guys do well with this guide and as always, have a good one.
