Ahri's poke and combo are very devastating to Vladimir. If you make a single miss step it can be very fatal for you. Her early poke easily out ranges you, so make sure not to force a trade and only Q when she is overextending for minions. Once you get your Protobelt, you will be able to crush her, if you are on even grounds or ahead. Make sure to stand in minions so her charm doesn't hit and try not to proc Stormraiders when she charms you in a trade. Take ignite if you want more kill pressure and to cut off her sustain.
Twisted Fate
He can out trade you early on with gold card and Q, but with your first back item, you should be able to easily out damage him. I recommend taking ghost in this matchup to match his roams, or lock him down in team fights for he is immobile. Your pool can also block his gold, so if you are getting ganked and he decides to hit you with one it's an easy escape. You can get boots early to harass him down with a good amount of movement speed.
Akali
This can be tricky. She has a **** ton of q poke, but you can easily sustain that damage. Try not to get into range of her W when she Q's you, because she will always come on top with that trade. Try to CS well to get a kindle gem and some AP, as this will help you a lot in this matchup with the survivability and poke. Poke her down early with AA's and Q's. Once she hits lvl 6 do not over extend. Her lvl 6 power spike can delete you, especially if she is running ignite. Make sure to ward up incase she roams. If you end up following her you can easily come out on top if you play it right and get ahead from there.
Annie
Such an easy lane. Take ghost, you dont need kill pressure here. Early levels her trading is better than yours, dont take it freely at all costs. Try to CS as much as possible and Q when she over extends. Ward up because her stun can be a easy gank unless you are able to pool her Q. Once you get your first back items try to poke her down when she is grabbing CS. If she is low enough and if you have eyes on the enemy JG, go for a full combo with your ulti and you can snowball from there. Dont let her roam when shes 6 because one good roam and she will be able to out trade you hard. Follow her with ghost and try your best to shut her down. This is a great target to focus in team fights with the enemy AD, as she is immobile as hell.
Cassiopeia
Pinnacle of an early game champ. Try to let her push in as she easily out ranges you and if she somehow lands a Q, the trade is automatically in her favor. Try to get some assistance from your JGler if she over extends. Try to get boots and some AP. Take trades that are guaranteed to be in your favor. If she is low enough, a full combo can kill her. Do not try to skirmish with a 2v2 early on with her, ive had bad experiences with that. If she decides to roam early with not a good amount of items on you, spam ping for your team and push in the wave and try to get a back. You can shut her down in a team fight mid-late game easily.
Zed
Zeds poke lvl 1 is not that great compared to yours, considering that you can sustain all of it. Try to get an advantage there. Lvl 2-5 try to stay cautious, but dont hesistate to take good trades. If he gets a good combo off on you, he can kill you easily, so dont even underestimate it. His ulti is useless to you because you can pool right after his ulti and it will be canceled. Try to get some armor and build a seekers as your second item, unless the enemy Zed is useless. Once you get Proto you can sustain all his poke, even from a W-E-Q combo. Do not, and i repeat, do not get this guy very ahead of you.
Jayce
This guy is going to ****ing tear you apart early. Let him push in at all costs. Keep your distance and try to dodge his Q, you can even stay in the minions to do that. Get dorians shield and dont take too many trades, try to focus on keeping that HP bar full. He scales well with lethality, but you scale even better. Once you get proto you can face him 1v1, but keep in mind, he still has that insane burst potential. Dont underestimate him.
Brand
He can out range you early on with his W. Stay in minions so he cant land his Q. Landing his Q stuns you and procs his passive, which does a lot of damage. Play it passive and try to poke down and get him out of lane early on. Once you get items you should be able to stomp him in lane. Dodge his Q with your pool and burst him down if trying to kill him. Can easily be focused down in team fights and in skirmishes. The only way you die to this guy is if you make a very greedy play or a dumb miss step, don't do that.
Orianna
This is considered the counter to Vlad, and the reasoning behind that is her zoning. Good Ori's will try to zone you off your minions, because that is the only way you are able to sustain most of the time. Try to dodge her ball as much as possible early on. If you do it often she will eventually run out of mana. But at the same time, if she gets an advantage in lane a good Ori will try to zone you as much as possible. What i like to do in this match-up is try to stay on even footing. I know I outscale her so if i play it with well i can get ahead just by items. I also like to look at other lanes and see if i can get an easy roam off with ghost. That's probably the best way to get ahead in this match-up.
Fizz
Let him push in, do not push unless he is dead, roaming or you want lane priority if you are ahead. Take trades lvl 1-2. Try to focus on CSing and don't get low enough for him to dive you. He is a melee champ, meaning he can really harass you under tower unless he Q's you under tower, W's you and E's out. You can get a good trade out of that though, as he wastes a lot of mana and he has large CD's. With one first back item you can be a little more free with your trading, but his damage is still good, don't get too crazy with it. Your pool can dodge his ulti damage, so that's a plus :).
Katarina
Its fine to trade Q's early on, but STAY AWAY FROM HER DAGGERS AT ALL COSTS. I've had games against Katarina's that can just ruin me with a good all in lvl 4. Pretend as if standing on the daggers is lava or some **** idk, just don't stand near them early on. You can dodge her ulti with your W, so try to hold it for that. Don't take early 2v2 skirmishes, you will lose. First back item you can be a little more free, but daggers are still a problem. But if Kat gets behind, you can ruin her day. Zone her, kill her, roam, she is useless when shes behind. So try to take every advantage that presents you and you will be a-ok in this match-up.
Syndra
His range early on will out-trade you always. Try to trade when she over extends for CS. You can dodge her ulti with your pool when shes 6, that will negate literally 60% of her burst. Once you get first item you can trade a little more freely. When you get Protobelt you can play aggro and maybe even grab a quick kill if she greeds. Try to stay away from balls as you are open to her stun which can lead to a gank or even a kill. Her damage early on is not something to test, have respect.
Yasuo
Vladimir is SUPPOSED to counter Yasuo, unless you play it wrong. Early on if you are looking for a trade, auto attack to break his shield then go for a Q to actually take HP from his health bar. Try to stay away from minions, because if he gets an E on you he will win the trade with autos and Q's. This guy is probably one of the worst to get ahead (Obviously) so don't do any stupid plays. You cant really get a kill early unless he does something really stupid, but once you get a first item or Proto you should be able to get some sort of lead or even a kill. His wind wall also blocks your E, so don't waste health for no reason unless his wind wall is down.
Azir
His poke early on is better than yours, he will test your positioning greatly. Make sure to poke if he miss steps and stay away from the soldiers, don't underestimate the damage.
Ziggs
He out ranges you heavily early on and does more damage than you. Try to take really safe pokes early on and don't take too much harass. He can do a lot of damage to towers (Obviously) so try to not take too much harass to force a back on yourself. You can easily sustain his damage with some items under your belt and even kill him. Try to establish a lead and use it with roams or a zone. He has a lot of skill shots so try to dodge a lot of them to be successful in this.
======================
Hello, my name is iiAtomic and I am currently a Plat 4 Vladimir main. Personally I have always loved the champion. I've played numerous games with him and I've played most of his match-ups on repeat. I think i have a visual idea of how this champ is played and i think i can give good tips to help you out. In my opinion, Vladimir is in a decent spot right now in solo Q. If in the right hands, you can be a great help to your team. Actually, this champ is a great choice if you want to climb out of low elo, simply because no one knows how to play against him down there. In this guide, i will go over match-ups, items, pros and cons, spells, and the importance of farming. Please be sure to ask me any questions, all will be answered.
