Why AP Kog'maw?

Many people say he is 'OP' - Not really, but he is better than AD Kog'maw.
This is because AD Kog'maw does most of his damage from Bio-arcane-Barrage- which AP can also do but since his abilities stack with AP do much more. Also going against a mid-lane champion usually gives you the edge since it is like eating cake. In general since Kog'maw can still do a lot of damage even without using his extreame burst abilities with long range poke that can also slow the enemy and reduce armor- AP- mixed with AD allows more damage then AD Kog'maw could ever do.

Summoner Spells

I suggest ghost since Kog'maw is not very good at escaping
Ignite is good for damage but Exhaust- Heal, Flash, and Teleport are also viable
Using heal will normally get you called a 'noob' in all chat

Long range battles sometimes allow enemies to escape

Early Game

Try to poke at the other champion as much as you can. If they buy boots and pots and you die with your passive to kill them then it is considered a win.

Try to help your team-mates by ganking lanes if you have the time to also.

Middle Game

What you want to do is just come in for the kill. Although Kog'maw can take some damage and 2v1 it is preferred that you try slowing the enemy and kiting them around to avoid as much damage as possible. Try to stay with your team if you can because at this point it is easy to think you are invincible.

Late Game

Kog'maw is seen as one of the most powerful late game champions. Mixed with a lot of late game items such as rod of ages you can almost take down anyone- even tanks in a matter of seconds. Focus on pushing with your team in the back and taking turrets so you can win.

Kog'maw and CS

Since Kog'maw is usually played as a ADC CS should not be hard. If you have mana to spare use E in a lane to lower the minions health to near death then basic attack them all.

If you can use E to hit both the minions and your enemy.

Be careful not to over-farm because you might push the lane too much and become prone to a gank.

How to stay safe from ganks

It is easy to predict if your enemy is coming in for a gank- take note if they randomly start running towards you. Since AP kog'maw has a good slow and great range ganking should not be so hard to avoid.

If you do not have ghost and do not feel secure i suggest not pushing and just poking.
If you are lucky you may be able to kill a jungler if they come out of the brush and you slow them.

Kiting

To kite a enemy is to attack them while they are chasing you. For Kog'maw this is a very useful tactic.

How to kite

While running back use E to slow the enemy. Since you maxed E first the slow will be fairly effective. Aim R on yourself so while they are chasing you they will run into the blast. You can use Q while running so use that when you can also. After you have weakend them and they start to run you can turn around and come in for the kill.

You can also use ghost or vice-versa do this while chasing them.

When to kite

It is never a really a bad time to kite- But these are when you should be doing this.
Kiting can allow you to kill a fed enemy.

You have low health and are being chased.
You are outnumbered.
You are in a team fight and are being focused.
Someone is chasing you.
You know you can not win the fight.
