Learn the Basics of Vel'koz

By Fhizzikx
Understanding of Vel'koz
So if you're looking to play vel'koz then you need to understand that he is am immobile mage that deals tons of damage and a portion of it is true damage.

Knowing this information you want to be altering your playstyle from going frontline and taking tons of damage with mobile champions to a stationary squishy poke playstyle. Instead of going in and being the engage you are basically another ADC the team must protect and peel for. So knowing how to properly position is key to playing vel'koz. Bad positioning results in being caught by hooks or assassins such as Blitz or Zed.

Most of Vel'koz's damage comes from his passive.
The way to trigger the passive is to hit an enemy champion with abilities 3 times. The third time the enemy champion is hit by an ability will trigger a burst of true damage. Vel'koz's passive has no cooldown meaning that you can trigger his passive multiple times on the same target.
Simple Combos Back to Top
A simple combo is a q followed by a w and e. If you manage to hit all of those abilities then you can trigger one rotation of your passive.

A Longer combo is q w e r and that will trigger 2 rotations of your passive, usually enough to oneshot someone.

A more advanced combo for finishing off low health targets is to shoot a wide q and then using r right after. This will trigger one rotation of your passive and guarantee a kill if you manage to land your q.
