Introduction

Hi, niko4325 here bringing you a guide to play Olaf.

**YOU MUST KNOW** that this is my first guide!

His Lore

On an uncharted continent beyond Valoran's grasping clutches, the conqueror named Olaf was born to a long tradition of soldiers unlike most others. Berserkers, as they tout themselves, are warriors who channel fury deep from their cores, unleashing pure and savage wrath upon their enemies. This fearsome evolution is a product of their unforgiving home, Lokfar – a barren tundra where all creatures must vie bitterly for every resource. Olaf belonged to a seafaring clan known for ruthlessly pillaging any and all villages within reach of their dragon-crested longboats. The last time he saw his icy home, Olaf was embarking on an expedition to pioneer and plunder a distant land known only to legend. However, while underway, a terrible storm sprung up and Olaf and his crew were thrown to the mercy of a roiling and pitiless sea.

His ship destroyed, his crew nowhere to be found, Olaf miraculously washed up untold miles from "friendly" waters on the foreign shores of Valoran, south of Demacia. This unfamiliar place stunned and frightened the Berserker, for Lokfar is not privy to such potent magicians. Approaching them, Olaf hoped that they could use their mysterious powers to send him back to his people. A bargain was struck. Olaf would use his awesome prowess as a warrior to serve the unusual wars of Valoran in the League of Legends, and in exchange the sorcerers would find him a way to return. Despite his participation in the League, Olaf knows better than to trust the "finger wagglers" that run the Institute of War. He deliberately keeps details of his life and home from them. After all, with enough information, they would most certainly find the Lokfarians and dominate them as they have dominated all of Valoran, keeping both quietly – and unwittingly – in their thrall.

"Beware the war cry of the Berserker. What surges toward you is unyielding, free from the shackles of reason."

Items

I start out with Cloth armor and potions so that i will get Madred's razors faster. I go with 2 of each potions because you will lose a lot of mana using Undertow if you are against ranged carries, and against Melee champions it's nice to heal after getting firstblood.
After Madred's Razors i go with Boots of Speed, because you might need a little movement speed to move faster to your lane when you have been back healing. At this point i upgrade Madred's Razors into Wriggle's Lantern to get lifesteal, armor, damage and then still have the passive from Madred's Razors so you can farm more easily. I buy Phage now, for a little hp, and for slowing enemies with basic attacks, if I don't hit with Undertow. Right after Phage i buy Giant's belt and upgrade it to Warmog's Armor to get a lot of hp, and still dealing amazing damage. And now i will upgrade my Phage into a Frozen Mallet
NOW THE TRICKY PART COMES
After those items you have 3 spots left. And then i go for situationally items!
If you feel like your team is feeding, and it's AD who are dominating, you should go for: Atma's Impaler --> Warmog's Armor --> Sell wriggle's Lantern --> Thornmail --> Guardian Angel.... Then you should buy Ninja Tabi as boots.

If AP champions dominates the game, I suggest that you buy: Maw of Malmortius --> Force of Nature --> Sell Wriggle's Lantern --> Warmog's Armor --> Guardian Angel

If you feel like you are dominating I suggest you buy: Atmas Impaler --> Warmogs Armor --> Maw of Malmortius --> Guardian Angel

Jungle Items and Skills

And now the part you have all been waiting for. Actually the "items" section was what kept me from writing this guide for a very long time. Olaf has a variety of itemization paths which you can take and I wanted to make sure I had found the optimal item build before posting this guide.

Items:

Then Boots
Then Wriggle's Lantern
Then Ninja Tabi or Mercury's Treads or Berserker's Greaves
Then Youmuu's Ghostblade
Then Maw of Malmortius
Then Frozen Mallet maybe buy phage a little earlier, depending on how you are doing
If you complete these items you will totally diesel. Rarely will a game go longer than this (in fact it probably wont even go this long) but if it does OR if you feel you need them earlier in the game you should consider

Guardian Angel

Bloodthirster
or
Warmog's Armor

Skills
I have chosen to start out with because it is a great skill to jungle with. just don't throw the axe to far away! if you throw it at the minimum range you will be able to pick it up very fast again, and then use it a lot more. I want this to get to level 2 fast, because it slows better when ganking and it does slightly more damage to enemies.
the rest of the skills is standard seqeunce for Olaf!

Abilities:

Berserker Rage

Your passive is what allows you to be such an effective jungler. It also synergizes very well with vicious strikes and life-steal to give you amazing survivability.

Undertow

Underwhelming as far as damage is concerned, but at rank 2 it will slow enemies just enough so that you can close effectively (it can also be used to last hit enemies fleeing a teamfight at low health). In the jungle phase you can use undertow at minimum range so that you immediately pick up the axe and reset the cooldown. This will help you kill wolf and wraith camps quickly.

Tough It Out

This is your bread and butter ability. It synergizes with your passive and life-steal items to give you great survivability (provided your attacking something) It also allows you to increase your damage by stacking health. With nothing more than a frozen mallet this ability will add roughly 70 damage to your auto attacks. This means you can get all the health you want without sacrificing your ability to carry effectively.

Reckless Swing

This ability doesn't scale at all so its better in the early game and worse in the late game as people begin to stack more health. However it does deal true damage which makes it a very effective tool for bringing down beefy tanks.

Ragnarok

In my opinion this is one of the most underrated ultimate abilities in the game. The passive armor pen is fantastic for any melee champion, but 6 seconds of complete and utter immunity is simply fantastic on a champion like Olaf. Every other melee carry in LoL is vulnerable to CC and can be completely shut down in a team fight. Even powerhouses like Xin Zhao or Tryndamere (yeah i know hes not top tier but thats only because he CAN be CCed so easily)can be completely shut down by a well placed Stun,Blind, or Wither. Most team fights are decided in the first few seconds so having that freedom to move/attack will really help your team prevail. Also remember that you are only hard to kill while you are hitting something, an exhausted Olaf is a useless and probably very dead Olaf.

Skill Sequence

I have chosen to take my "Q" as the starting skill for slowing and damaging enemies champions, so it's easier to get firstblood, because they will be easier to catch. Some think it's better to take Olaf's "E". I don't recommend that, because it deals almost the same damage to enemies as to himself, so i recommend leveling that up as fast as possible after your "Q", so you wont kill yourself. Then i go max my "W" to get even more lifesteal and attack damage.
