Introduction

Welcome to Dex's Lee Sin guide

First of all let me introduce myself. My name is Boris "Dex" Stanoyevitch, I am the current toplaner for Reason Gaming and I'm maining Lee Sin since 6-7 months now (about 500-600 games with him.)

In this guide, I'll be showing you how to play Lee Sin, The Blind Monk.

Lee Sin (played at toplane) is a high damage assassin which, combined with the Ravenous Hydra, is one of the strongest waveclearer with Rumble. I will be showing this particular way of playing him in this guide.

Pros & Cons

Pros

+ Huge sustain
+ Huge damage in lane
+ Very good waveclear
+ Huge mobility
Lee Sin has a high snowball potential and a high splitpush abilities. He can slam down an entire wave of creeps just by using Ravenous Hydra and Tempest, Because of that he is a constant threat when pushing since his Flurry allow him to destroy a turret quickly.

Cons

- Hard to master
- Relies on his Sonic Wave to make all of his damage.
- Mega squishy if heal reductions is applied to him.
Besides, Lee Sin relies a lot on his skillshot, Sonic Wave, to basically be able to put all of his other spells. Because of that, if you can't manage to land a lot of Q's, you will be useless. Also remember that you have a lot of lifesteal (almost 90% lategame) but you have no HP, which makes you very sensible to any heal reduction effects.

Skills Explanation

Flurry
After Lee Sin uses an ability, his next basic attacks gains attack speed and returns energy.

This helps you keeping energy and trading a few autoattacks. Don't ignore it, otherwise you'll fall out of energy quickly.

Sonic Wave/Resonating Strike
Lee Sin projects a discordant wave of sound, dealing physical damage to the first enemy it encounters. If Sonic Wave hits, Lee Sin can cast Resonating Strike for 3 seconds.

Resonating Strike: Lee Sin dashes to the enemy hit, dealing physical damage plus 8% of their missing Health.

This is your main source of damage, the length of the skillshot is reasonable but you absolutely need to not miss it. If you do miss it, your overall damage will be reduced by 40% and you won't be able to do some combos. Remember it has a %hpmissing ratio, so use it when your opponent is low HP.

Safeguard/Iron Will
Lee Sin rushes an ally, shielding them both for damage for the next 5 seconds. After using Safeguard, Lee Sin can cast Iron Will for the next 3 seconds

Iron Will: For 5 seconds, Lee Sin gains lifesteal and spell vamp.

This ability is great to sustain/escape/catch/do some combos/protect an ally In fact, this ability can basically do everything. I cannot explain how can you use it, since you will learn it over time. You can use Iron Will in a middle of a trade, to gain HUGE sustain (Basically at rank 5 3 auttoattacks and you're full hp.)

Tempest/Cripple
Lee Sin smashes the ground, dealing magic damage and reveals enemy units. If Tempest hits an enemy, Lee Sin can cast Cripple for the next 3 seconds.

This ability allows you to stick to your target ( Caitlyn) while slowing his AS so he won't be able to do anything (preferably Caitlyn). It works pretty well against AD carries ( Caitlyn). You can use it to reveal any stealth enemies and it will be your main source of waveclearing with Ravenous Hydra.

Dragon's Rage
Lee Sin performs a kick launching an enemy champion far away in the other direction, dealing physical damage to the target and any enemies they collide with. Enemies the target collides with are knocked into the air.

One of the best ultimates in the game. You can use it to kick back an enemy into your team (A.K.A InSec), To perform a deadly combo with Sonic Wave-> Dragon's Rage-> Resonating Strike, Or to save yourself in dangerous situations. It deals HUGE damage, so don't waste it !

Combos

1 : InSec

This combo, as explained before, consists in using Safeguard to a target behind the enemy to Dragon's Rage him into your team. Works well with no-escapes chars like Varus or Lux.
ALTHOUGH THIS IS A POWERFUL COMBO, NEVER HIT SOMEBODY LIKE Malphite OR Orianna INTO YOUR TEAM.This will lead to an 3s ace for them since they can just ult themselves to CC your whole team. Works also with Flash

2 : WarDash

This combo consists in placing a Sight Ward somewhere, then quickly Safeguard on it. It is very useful to catch someone or to save yourself by using Safeguard trough a wall.

3 : Waveclear

This combo consists in using Tempest then using your active Ravenous Hydra in order to finish minions. Very useful if you want to splitpush easily.

4 : Finisher

This combo consists in using Sonic Wave then Dragon's Rage and just after Resonating Strike, This is very effective against mid-life opponents to finish them with the %hpmissing ratio of Resonating Strike, which will be very effective after taking huge damage from your Dragon's Rage

Early Game

This is where you shine. You can kill anybody at top, except Udyr, Since your lane domination is awesome, it's good to take a Sight Ward.

Try always to put 2 auto-attacks between your first Q and your second Q. this will maximize the %hp missing combo

Also, if you are sure that the enemy will flash away from you in a trade, don't dash first, trade with him, and when he flashes, use again your Q (It lasts 3 seconds, be aware !) So you can stick to your target and get an easy FB !

Mid Game

If you're fed, try to gank every single lane, or to counter jungle, this will act on other players lane, and it will help your mates (I remember shutting down a 5/0 anivia just by taking all of her blues)

Your lane will be okay as long as you got Ravenous Hydra, you'll be dealing tons of dmg.

Start pushing hard, your lane phase will be over in 5 mn and you'll probably regroup at mid after taking toplane turret.

If you're not fed, keep farming & getting golds

If you act good, you can actually win the game alone, just by being lee sin and kicking enemies into your team.

Late Game

It becomes kinda tricky at this point, you'll start dealing less damage due to your poor base damage, even if you build dps. I would say don't go first except if you Q'd the enemy AD carry, otherwise you'll have no chances and you'll die.

If a game start becoming too long, end it asap, because Lee is completely useless late-game.

Try catching people, you're still a great duelist.

Counters

Doomed difficulty means there is no way you can win this matchup even with 4 kills.

Hard: You'll have hard time vs this boy, he outtrades you early.

You can still win tho if you can take 1 kill early.

Doomed: He'll silences you every single time you'll try to harass him, so you can't use any ability to make dmg. Then he press R and you lost lane. There is no way you can get him.

Doomed: He's better than you early game, his sustain is great, he makes more damage than you, and if he goes low life he just have to press R so you can't finish him with your Q.

However, 1 kill and you won top, so ask your jungle to go top.

Doomed: He outtrades you with his tiger stances, sustains better with his turtle, + stuns you when you'll come to harass him. ask for jungler to come top asap.

Hard: Same as jayce, but she has sustain. Don't even think about killing her and try to make plays out of your lane with your ultimate.

Hard: He will outsustain you before you can do anything.

But! if you take 1 kill then max shield instead of E, you'll win probably.
