Champion Build Guide

Maliciously Manufactured Malzahar

By junioralchemy
Origin Story
Browsing the LOL Wiki, I saw Malz listed as battlemage, but I thought to myself, he's played as a DPS mage. This build is essentially Battlemage Malz with a heavy emphasis on his E synergy with the items by building: ability power, health, and omnivamp.
Malefic Visions
Malzahar infects the target enemy's mind, dealing them magic damage every 0.5 seconds over 4 seconds, which refreshes upon damaging them with his other abilities. If the target dies while infected, they spread Malefic Visions onto the closest nearby enemy and Malzahar restores a percentage of his maximum mana.
Build

Riftmaker - For each second in combat with champions, deal bonus damage, stacking up to 3 times. While this effect is fully stacked, convert 100% of the bonus damage into true damage. This has great synergy with your E as it lasts for 4 seconds so one cast unto an enemy allows for two seconds of true damage and since your E scales well with AP, the true damage will amount to a lot: great against tanks and bruisers. Furthermore, the mythic passive grants ability power and omnivamp for every legendary built, which helps the build immensely. Using other abilities, you can keep the passive stacked buying time for your E to come back up, use it on your desired target. Rinse and repeat till they are out of E range.

Demonic Embrace - The first passive: gain ability power equal to bonus health. This is great because practically any health you build on Malz is bonus health, which equates to more ability power. Overall, increasing your E damage. The second passive: dealing ability damage curses enemies, causing them to take a percentage of their maximum health as total magic damage over 4 seconds. Again, great synergy with the E because the duration is the same, and using other abilities, you can keep the passive stacked buying time for your E to come back up. Great for shredding those tanks and bruisers.

Seraph's Embrace - Grants you ability haste equal to bonus mana and heals you every 35% of mana spent. This build has no mana sustain apart from this item so starting Tear of the Goddess is pivotal so by the time you have purchased boots and the two previous items, the tear would be fully stacked. The heal section pairs neatly with the omnivamp passive from Riftmaker and Spirit Visage which enhances healing. To buy Seraph's you need to acquire Archangel Staff.

At this point, one E+W will be enough to clear the wave, therefore refunding a decent proportion of mana permitting you to clear the next wave and so on, easily funding the money for the remaining items. The only reason to base is to buy items due to the fact to have mana sustain (Serpah's and E passive), health sustain (Riftmaker omnivamp passive), and have the damage to wither down any target. For boots, either take Sorcerer or Lucidity boots, however it doesn't matter.

Shadowflame - Dealing magic damage to champions ignores some of their magic resistance, increased to maximum value if they were affected by shields within the last 5 seconds, basically an AP Serpent's Fang, good if they build shields or there are enchanters on the enemy team. Realistically, take the item for its base stats as it is the second-highest AP item and gives you decent health.

Spirit Visage - Increases all healing and shielding received by 25%. As a result, the onmivamp passive and the Seraph's healing is more effective in completing the battlemage playstyle.

Rabadon's Deathcap - Build this item late, late game and sell boots as it grants substantial AP then increase all your AP by 120%. Therefore, increasing E damage thus enhancing the true damage dealt by you. Alternatively, you can build anti-heal to momentarily delay healing on the enemy team.

Conclusion
This build has everything you want in a battlemage: damage and healing, great synergy with your E, and was great fun to make. Sincerely, I hope you enjoy this build and bring pain to your rivals.
