I don't like Doran's ring. i feel like it was a waste. I Prefer to either get pendant or crystal first. Instead of deathcap i bought Frozen heart. so i have mag resist and armor with the insane mana. Not bad for a build that came out before the change with ryze. still think there should be more mana than ap. All the games i played, i could kill anyone but akali.
His AP-scaling is horrendous.
Skill ordering needs a little work too.
I presume you're getting Spell Flux for harass and last-hitting.
Bad... It doesn't scale with mana, and you should be learning to last-hit with auto-attacks on Ryze early game, since he's suppose to be DPS carry style now.
Otherwise, you'll end up out of mana super fast during the first few minutes.
Im gonna buy Ryze once the freaking shop works, then im gonna try out this build. Ill rate it then :D
A. Get informed about the system of flat MagPen and MagPen by %.
With 15% MagPen you wont bring any dmg to your target in the early and mid game. You won't rise it before void staff, which is not before you earned 15.750 gold. WAY too late.
Besides: 55% MagPen arent of any use compared to flat MagPen runes / quints and sorcerers shoes before enemies stack 76 MR or above (I'll leave the calculations to you - trust me, I prove them more than once).
And you dont pick out the tanks... your job is to burst down everything else.
B. Your approach to the benefits of mana are bad as well.
Let me explain the effects of mana and of AP to Ryze (after this patch) to you:
Using overload, 10% of your mana is dealt as dmg, while 20% of your AP is dealt as dmg as well. I.e. you have to get 2 points of mana, for every point of AP you could get. No problem.
Sadly it doenst work for rune prison: 5% of your mana is converted, but still 60% of your AP. So you'd need 12 points of mana, for every point of AP you could get.
Afterall, mana has absolutely no effect on spell flux - which bounces 5 times, by that this skills bonus dmg (cumulated) is affacted by 35-175% of your AP.
So if you aim on raising your dmg, you'll have to go for the old glass cannon system: 1x rabadons, 3x archangels. 6th item can either be rylais for HP and CC, or RoA. Both can be purchased earlier or later.
Your setup, however, is far behind clever - not only in delivering the dmg, but already in amplifying it.
C. Spell order - while I can agree on taking desperate power at lvls 6, 11, 16, and taking one lvl on rune cage early on (I'd suggest lvl 4, however, according to playstyle and lanemate), I find you fail with maxing overload first.
Let's compare the damage per second, viewing this graphics:
http://h-4.abload.de/img/ryzecalcsitw8.png
As you can see, a spell flux at maximum bounces is, at any given time, granting more dmg per second (yes, I devided the dmg of overload by 3,5, and the one of spell flux by 14) than overload.
So especially in teamfights or for clearing out creep waves it is more viable.
Furthermore, it bounces by itself, while you would have to stay in range for 4 casts of overload to deal an less to equal amount of dmg, thus getting you into the danger of getting killed 300% more than necessary.
I surely see the benefit from a shorter cool down, due to higher flexibility. But taking into account dmg output and farming efficency, your build pretty much is poorly balanced.
I rather suggest leveling spell flux and overload 1:1, unless you go for a pure mana build (i.e. getting your items in another order: tear of the goddess, banshees, catalyst -> RoA), in that and only in that case it might be clever to max overload first... however, sacrificing your effective zoning for that.
A nice attemp, but afterall I cant suggest to play according to your build, have to ask you to work it over and maybe next time dont sell "guessing" as an experienced players approach to teaching others.
+1
Even people on the PTR haven't been able to make a solid conclusion on how the new ryze is yet, and it's been on there for over 2 weeks.
