If you need your q to farm then farm with your q and dont poke him.
When u get ur 6, you should try to push hard (with bamis cinder/sunfire) so the enemy cant damage your tower, when u ulting down bot or mid lane.
Team Fights
Just push and w8 for a good chance to ult in and try to:
-taunt the enemies backline or
-peel for your adc/apc
