Although you bronze plebs may not know, Soraka's potential as an assassin or AD Carry is unparalleled. Her Bananas grow bigger over distance, and are thus, scarier, and scarier means more damages. Also, Soraka's AP scaling is pretty **** TBH, so AD is the obvious build path to take.

Unfortunately, I don't have all day to do every champion in League, but your main threats are Urgot and Galio. Urgot counters everyone hard because he is just a broken champ, and Galio will smash you before you get your 100% crit powerspike.

The basic combo goes a little like this:
Q then auto until you can Q again, then e in the enemies way of escaping so they get rooted and proceed to repeat the Q-auto combo. It is a hard to master combo, but is very rewarding when you pull it off. Just remember that if you miss your Q, your family is ashamed of you and you probably won't get dinner that night.
