Introduction

Welcome to a new Riven
Hey, I'm Space and I'm writing this for players who are looking for another viable way to play Riven. While you read this do keep notice that this will not make you a better Riven player. That comes from many games practicing her craft. This will however give you some insight on why Riven can be very viable as an off-tank in ranked and regular play. So without further delay, lets start our journey,

Runes

My Runes

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Dark Harvest
Phase Rush
When Off-tanking any champion these are roughly your general runes. This is because as an Off-Tank/Trinity Tank your job is to farm and kill as much as your AP/AD carry so that you can counter the current Meta (Pouring all your gold into 1-2 characters).
Other Choices]

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush
These are great options for runes id only get armor in my marks if i didn't have Arp runes for them, but if you do have Arp marks use those

Summoner Spells

Good
These are all viable summoner spells but i do reccomend you take 1 offensive spell and one movement spell that way you always have a bit of damage and escapeability.
Okay
both of these are pretty average spells. Cleanse would definitely be better than Ignite late game when you are jumping into the enemy team and Teleport would help if you died in your lane early game it's up to you.
Bad
Dont get these ever.

Masteries

My Masteries
These Masteries are pretty Basic on Riven you build Damage, cooldowns, and Arp in the offensive tree while building health in the defensive tree. It's all very self explained.

Skill Sequence
You want to max out Broken Wings early in the game it's good for farming an getting out of situations. Then you want to max Ki Burst it deals pretty good damage and stuns which helps proc your Sunfire Aegis After that id finish up Blade of the Exile and Valor both great skills an help Riven pick up kills.

Items

When building Riven as an Off-Tank you do not build Trinity Force to most people's surprise! To my knowledge buying Trinity Force because a little less cost efficient due to her need for cooldowns and her lack of any mana. The Trinity Force is still useful on Riven for obvious reasons but i choose not to
Core Build
These items should generally be purchased every game you play. Ionian Boots of Lucidity are your obvious choice of boots with most cooldown based champions like Garen Riven and Katarina but Mercury's Treads are also a viable choice. You are going to be in the solo lane and i think rushing Sunfire Aegis helps you pick up more last hits under turret fire and in general. Sunfire Aegis also helps you pick up kills and assists in multi man/team fights which helps generate revenue so it has the capability to at least pay back for itself a little. At any rate the longer you have it the more it helps you farm so it's a good idea to rush it. This is the only part of the core i believe is dependent on the enemy laner, you might want to buy catalyst the protector before Sunfire Aegis to enjoy full benefits from catalyst the protector
The order in which you buy any of these all depends on the situation. If you are doing really well and are not running into any problems i usually would purchase Youmuu's Ghostblade first. It gives good cooldowns and has a great active and passives. If you find yourself unable to finish people off so you arent doing bad but you arent doing good i'd get the Frozen Mallet it gives you a solid chunk of health but what we want is the slow effect. This should put you back on track to picking up the kills you need to counter their carry. If you are being kited and you just can't seem to farm or kill i'd buy Warden's Mail and build it into a Randuin's Omen with this it slows the attack and movement speed of most kiters making it easier to farm and even kill.

Summary

This Section is for those who wish to hear my thoughts on how to successfully play Riven in the top solo lane and what his job is during team fights and the game in general. If you know how you want to play SKIP THIS.
Alright if you are reading than you must wan to know what i think of Riven and how also to play her so let's begin. I think Riven is a pretty good contender for the top solo because she is such a mobile champion but she also can get tanky and offensive at the same time while having good CC which is really all the key points of your teams anti carry. In her early game play you can either sit at you turret and last hit or jump in to the creeps with Broken Wings with the first and second activation Ki Burst and then use your 3rd activation and Valor to jump out. It really all depends on your enemy laners. You will mostly farm early and mid game shes a pretty good roamer if you can get someone to hold your lane since she has a stun and shes fast it's whatever you are comfortable doing. Just make sure you get your Creep Score high. It really is the key to winning games with any champ. If your cs is in the bottom half of everyone playing you are not farming enough. This is the whole reason behind getting a solo lane.
Come late game your role changes from farming to focusing their carries (AD or AP it doesn't matter just make sure you shut them down) If you kill their carry or stall them you have done your job and your team should be grateful. Keep in mind to proc your Youmuu's Ghostblade and Randuin's Omen early for maximum effectiveness. If you do all of that your team should find winning a bit easier than trying to get rid of their carries through their tanks.

Conclusion

Hey thanks for reading and i hope it helps! if you liked my guide and it helped you out please +1 and +rep me i really appreciate it and it makes me want to write more. Constructive criticism is appreciated but please do not try to argue a carry Riven to me because that's not how i role.
