Hiya! My name is Darkraces and this is my competitive guide for

Shyvana is a very beefy fighter who excels at being in the middle of a fight soaking up and dishing out the damage. Shyvana, being a dragon, is also a predator. What do predators do? They hunt, they stalk, and finally they eat faces. (Bath salts not included with guide.) So, you are probably asking, "Dark, how the hell am i supposed hunt and play like a dragon?" All in good time... first lets go over your preparation.
This portion of my guide will go over all your pre-game prep. Runes, Masteries, and mental focus are all very important parts in your game, and playing
Shyvana is no exception.

Masteries
Alright, so you are preparing to venture into the jungle, What do you need as far as masteries? Well for shyvana the only things that make sense in first tier offense is
Summoner's Wrath
and 3 points in
Brute Force
. Now here is where it gets interesting. you can either take
Alacrity
and then
Weapon Expertise
or
Sorcery and
Arcane Knowledge
. But
Shyvana is hybrid, so why not take both? Yes, both of these mastery chains. If you are confused, let me explain.
Burnout is your primary source of damage,
Twin Bite and auto attacks close following.
Burnout along with your
Flame Breath and
Dragon's Descent do magical damage. Twin bite is your only spell that requires AD and armor pen. But it is so important to have it for your auto attacks and the magic pen for your burnout, it is amazing to take both!
Summoner's Resolve
is taken for smite and
Resistance
and
Hardiness
for basic defenses. Put the remaining points in the utility tree for
Good Hands
,
Improved Recall
,
Swiftness
and most importantly, your buff duration,
Runic Affinity
Now, if you want to go top, it is about the same except we take away the utility tree and add
Durability
,
Vigor
,
Veteran's Scars
, and
Siege Commander
in defense. Then
Demolitionist
in offense. These masteries are taken to become a bit tankier to trade blows and to be able to take down your opponents tower as punishment if they leave.

Oh yes, what makes you able to jungle and puts you ahead in top. Your runes.
9x of these bad boys will give ya some damage.
These guys make you attack faster, Helping a major part of your in game mechanics.
These guys give your armor a bit of extra beef.
Same as the glyphs
and 1 more of these will make you as beefy as you need.
This will help with the guys useing those silly marks mentioned aboved
just in case you have a opponent or enemy jungle who does magic damage.
This is your bread and butter of top, being able to chase down enemies and when you turn on
Burnout , forget about it.
Jungle runes

Top lane runes
greater mark of desolation These guys will make you deal near true damage to minions and hurt the armor stackers a bit
