Hi! I'm Mad ID, also known as Matt or Diezol and with alot of help from friends, im finally making this Trundle guide. I've previously reached Diamond I with only a few champions, the main one being Trundle with a 60% winrate in 200 games.
In this guide i will try my best to show you how effective you really can be with Trundle. On the outside he seems like a very basic champion with a simplistic kit, but if you utilize that kit to its maximum efficiency, you can become the outplay king and make your enemies tear their hair out trying to deal with you. In my opinion Trundle is also a very safe first pick / blind pick. There's only a few champions that Trundle really struggles with. But, most of them are out of meta. Nevertheless, I'll cover every matchup you should face against. |
I hope this guide is helpful to you in some way. Just an FYI - I'd love as much feedback as possible or even general questions about jungling / trundle i'd be more than happy to answer! just drop a message in the comments, dm me on Twitter or join my Discord server and I'll gladly answer any questions you have, or just come by when I'm streaming in Twitch.Tv and come say hi!

+ Fast camp times with Frozen Domain + Basic kit to pick up + learn + Incredible 1v1 Dueller + Good at all stages of game + Many different build paths + Doesent struggle against most meta junglers |
- Gets kited hard by ranged junglers, hi Graves! - Quite weak without R - Minimal CC - Gets destroyed by burst champs |
Trundle is a fantastic pick in the current jungling meta since he can hold his own in duels against most meta champions, and can counter jungle them hard. For example; Shyvana, Kayn, Kha'Zix, Camille. He adds tons of pressure into the game. He isn't mechanically challenging, however, he rewards you for matchups and game knowledge. He is great at all stages of the game + team fights after 6 due to Subjugate defencive stealing + his great single target sustain. He can build many different items and play in different ways, like going for Titanic Hydra and Sterak's Gage for more damage or going for a more utility focused build to help the team out with Banner of Command and Zeke's Convergence. Trundle is also very good at capitalising enemy's mistakes as shown in the clip below. |
The downside of playing Trundle, is that he gets shut down very easily by certain champions! such as Master Yi, Xin Zhao, Vi, Kindred, Graves So try not to pick trundle blind, but he's still an amazing pick! He also gets negated heavily by CC. So its recommended not to be picked into team comps that have much CC or else he won't be very useful. Trundle is also very easy to kite specially with champions that have some sort of slow or speed buff, such as Kindred. |
|
Should you blind pick Trundle? MAYBE. But if you really want to play Trundle and you don't mind what champion you are up against, go ahead.
Trundle should be picked into matchups such as:
- Most non-meta tanks as you can make all of their defensive stats become yours, making them helpless. Champions such as Maokai, Rammus, Amumu.
- Bruisers/Fighters that have a poor early game 1v1 such as Jarvan IV, Lee Sin, Camille.
- Champions that need their dashes for trading (They can go in but Trundle wins in extended fights against them), such as Nidalee, Wukong, Hecarim.
This section not only describes Trundle's abilities but also goes in a bit more in-depth to help you master them mechanically.
King's Tribute (Passive) EFFECT RADIUS: 1400 TARGET COOLDOWN: NaN |
Whenever an enemy dies near Trundle, he heals for 2/3/4/5/6% of their maximum health. This passive makes Trundle a very healthy champion, since he can gain lots of health back from kills / jungle camps. (Even more life back after kills with passive + triumph!) |
Chomp (Q) COOLDOWN: 4 COST: 30 mana BONUS AD: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 |
Trundle's next basic attack deals bonus damage and slows his target by 75%. After biting his target Trundle gains bonus attack damage for 8 seconds. Trundle's Q also reduces his target's attack damage by half that ammount for the same duration. This is Trundle's most damaging tool. It has a decent AD scaling, at early levels it shreds through any enemy |
Be careful when using this ability, you dont want to engage and use your Q straight away, the main thing which makes your Q a great ability is that it's an AA Reset, so make sure to use it that way!
Frozen Domain (W) TARGET RANGE: 900 EFFECT RADIUS: 1000 COST: 60 mana COOLDOWN: 15 |
Trundle coats the target area in ice for 8 seconds. While inside, he gains bonus attack speed This ability helps for Trundle to catch up to enemy champions. or the most useful way is to place it under yourself when dueling to get that extra attack speed + 25% health restoration from ALL sources. |
Pillar of Ice (E) TARGET RANGE: 1000 COST: 75 mana COOLDOWN: 22 / 20 / 18 / 16 / 14 SLOW: 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50 |
Trundle projects a pillar of ice at the target location for 6 seconds, knocking back everyone directly over it 225 units on cast. This is Singed's primary ability for pure... annoyance along with his Subjugate. It allows him to displace the enemy, preventing them from either getting away or even basing, it can be used to trap enemies in too. NO ESCAPE! Trundle more. A special mechanic to do with Pillar of Ice is to use it when a champion is about to jump. For example Tristana's rocket jump, you can interuppt her by casting your E at the right time. |
Enemies can also be pillared over certain terrains. It only works through thin enough terrains, and you need to be positioned next to the wall and aim the Pillar of Ice underneath them on the other side, and pop. they're next to you!
Pillar of Frost is a great tool for catching out enemies. Be careful when using it though, as if they flash over your pillar to escape, you could get unit blocked by your own pillar. So try to track enemies flashes!!
Pillar of Frost can be used to cancel jumps / dashes if timed properly, such as Rocket Jump and 90 Caliber Net
Subjugate (R) COST: 100 mana COOLDOWN: 110 / 90 / 70 TARGET RANGE: 700 MAGIC DPS: 2.5 / 3.4 / 4.4 (+0.25% per 100AP) of the targets maximum health |
Trundle drains the life force out of the target champion dealing magic damage each second for 4 seconds, healing trundle for 40$ of their armor + magic resistance. Half of the damage and stealing is applied instantly. This ability is one of Trundle's best powerspikes, if not his strongest one. It gives him all in potential at level 6 due to the great increase in stats he gets, it also lets him duel almost any champion at level 6 because of the raw power it gives him, but he also depends a lot on it for team fighting since this is what makes him so tanky during team fights. |
Try to play around your ultimate, only looking for 1v1 fights when you're Subjugate is up (unless you can easily win without it).

Gank effectively with Trundle |
Ganks are very straightforward on Trundle. He's a very easy champ to learn how to gank on once you've learnt the range of your pillar. As trundle you want to be focusing on the most immobile lane you can, and try to stick on it.
Lets say the enemy team has a Camille top lane + a Orianna mid lane. As Trundle you're going to want to focus that orianna mid lane as your priority rather than the Camille
Now yes, you can outplay the Camille by dropping your Pillar of Ice where she's going to grapple, but why waste the MAYBE oppertunity, when its most likely you will get the kill on the midlane, silly things like theese decisions can decide a teammates lane for them.
And my biggest advice is to LEARN MATCHUPS . If you know which lanes have priorty over others you can focus them to get them even more ahead than they should be!
Special Thanks
