About The Creator Of The Guide And Urgot

My name is OffWithYoHead from the East and Nordic Europe server.

I've found the secret OP of top lane which is my favorite champion- Urgot. In this in-depth guide you will learn the basics of Urgot as well as some advanced techniques. Overall the champion isn't hard to learn, he's really fun to play (mostly thanks to his extremely satisfying Ultimate) and he can carry games. What more could one want from a champion. Keep in mind that all of the information on this guide is all by personal experience and survey. Feel free to correct me and ask questions and also vote so I see what you think of the guide after you've tried it. I will try to update this guide as soon as I find out something new and try out all new new things as the patches roll on. Thanks for the attention, lets get into the guide.
- OffWithYoHead

Currently I'm working on a couple other builds on Mobafire and also trying out new stuff for Urgot. It's kind of hard to keep track of it all but I'm doing my best. Don't forget if you have any questions, just pop them in the discussion tab.

Runes (First Build)

Summon Aery is the best choice for Urgot simply because you cause a lot more damage with it long term than Arcane Comet. Also it procs a lot more helping you harass with your aa.

Nimbus Cloak is a new rune that works pretty good on Urgot. When you do the E->R combo or just attach an enemy champion with your R and they aren't under the health threshold you always seem to be a bit slower than your opponent, and end up wasting your Ultimate. Here Nimbus Cloak helps a lot because it lets you walk through the enemy wave with higher MS(Movement Speed) allowing you to catch up to the target. When you see it- it looks scary.

Manaflow Band is also a great choice if you trust yourself with following up on your ultimate. It will definitely make your life easier by giving you the opportunity to spam abilities more often.

You can go either Scorch or Gathering Storm although I always prefer Scorch . I take Gathering Storm only when I'm sure the game will go late just by looking at the team composition.

In the secondary tree firstly i take Sudden Impact . Your E counts as a dash and in most cases during the laning phase and out of it you are most likely going to activate your W after your E which gives you a lot of bonus damage.

Since in Patch 8.11 Ultimate Hat was removed, I suggest taking Ultimate Hunter from the Domination tree. It works just as good if not better. It lets you snowball greatly into the game. I tried Presence Of Mind to replace it but 10% CDR(Cooldown Reduction) didn't seem enough.

Laning and Combos

In most cases you take Cull as your first item which ultimately means you should focus on farming. But why Cull? It's a strange pick but it goes well with your W. Cull gives you 3 life on hit and with your W attack speed boost you regain quite some health during laning phase. Also last hitting minions as Urgot is pretty easy plus you can use your Q and W to help farming/pushing the wave. Additionally you get +1 gold for your first 100 minions farmed and 350 gold after completion. You also sell this item not long after finishing it's passive for 180 gold. All of that makes you easy 630 gold!

More laning tips are displayed higher at the matchup section of the guide. Now lets talk combos.

The easiest and lamest combo is Q->W. If you hit a unit with Q and then W in lane they will take quite some damage. But you risk being damaged a lot by the enemy minion wave. You Q the enemy before your W because your W focuses the latest enemy hit.

Next combo is Q->E->W. You slow the enemy and E on them while they are slowed. Then you pop your W shield and attack speed and walk around them. A basic combo.

Another combo is E->W->Q. Here you grab a minion thirsty enemy out of nowhere and pop W when they land behind you. As they are stunned for a brief moment pop a Q on the ground to slow them. This cheesy combo is mostly used when you poke the enemy to low health but they greed for a cannon minion. If they are melee, pop E right before the minion dies. 78% of the times you catch the enemy top laner. Finish the combo for a great deal of damage or even a kill.

Last combo is E->R->W->Q. Just like the last combo but you add in your Ultimate. Of course you can fire it as a skillshot which is always fun but if you want to guarantee that your Ultimate hits you first must catch the enemy and as they are stunned after your E you attach your Ultimate right next to them. Then you maul them with your W and Q as they get low enough for you to finish them off. Satisfying as always and it works.

Items

The Black Cleaver - In most cases your first major item. You build this item always unless you are getting hardly abused in lane to a point where you find it hard to farm or being camped by the enemy jungler.

Ninja Tabi - Buy these boots if the enemy team is mainly going to be doing Physical Damage . That means - all 5 enemies build AD. Champions that don't build AD or AP (tanks like Maokai) would require these boots too. If the enemy team has Mages or any kind of heavy CC (Crowd Control) champions don't consider buying Ninja Tabi .

Mercury Treads - Buy these boots if the enemy team has either heavy CC (Crowd Control) or AP reliant Mages (like Brand, Malzahar, Syndra, Ryze) . If the enemy team lacks heavy CC or their AP reliant Mage is behind to a point where there is a little chance they are coming back strong in the game ( 1/6 Score) then you may want to build Ninja Tabi . If there are two AP champions though, always build Mercury Treads .

Righteous Glory - If you are winning the laning phase and already have The Black Cleaver , with the enemy Mage (if there is one) not being fed then you could buy this item. It gives you Health and Health Regeneration, more Mana sustain, some Armor and 10% CDR (Cooldown Reduction). Plus it's Active allows you to be extra offensive in and out of lane.

Adaptive Helm - If the enemy team has 1 or more Mages that deal Magic Damage, sooner or later you will need to buy yourself this item. The only requirement is that your team doesn't have a Healer like Soraka . If it does and you are looking for MR (Magic Resistance) then you should check:

Spirit Visage - If you are in need for MR (Magic Resistance) and you DO have a healer on your team, Spirit Visage is the item you are looking for. If your team doesn't have a Healer though you should buy the item above.

Thornmail - Grants you lots of Armor and some Health . Good choice against melee champions like Yasuo, Fiora and such.

Warmog's Armor - Could be bought as last item when you are the only tank on the team and you need to survive and stay full health for longer periods of time. I personally don't buy it often but sometimes it's a lifesaver and game winner.

Abyssal Mask - The only time you will have to buy this item is when the enemy team is either all AP or has 3 or more really fed Mages . You buy this item always after the Spirit Visage and Adaptive Helm .

Randuin's Omen - Another good choice when you need Armor . It reduces Critical Strikes by 20% and his Active helps you chase down enemies. It combines well with Righteous Glory .

Sunfire Cape - Another good choice when you need Armor . Buy it when the enemy team goes all AD but never before Thornmail and Randuin's Omen . I almost never get to buy this item but you never know.

Oracle Lens - At least one player on your team must have this item after level 9 or 10. If the support hasn't got it for some reason then you should get it. Even if they got it sometimes it would be a good idea to grab it as well just so you can control the map better.

Runes (Second Build)

Unsealed Spellbook has been gaining popularity on Urgot and for a reason. Pretty much to use it, you have to Teleport back to lane after the 6 minute mark and poke down your opponent a bit. Then swap out the Teleport which is on cooldown to let's say- Ignite . This would help you burst down the enemy and in almost every case, get a kill. Or you could swap it out for Exhaust if your jungler is calling for a gank. You can take Heal if you are versus another Urgot and you both have ults, it would help you ult him first. Ghost is another good option whether you need to chase someone down or if you see a fast enemy jungler like Warwick or Nunu & Willump speeding towards you on the map in order to escape.

Magical Footwear - Helps you out with 300g and since you don't need the other two options on this page, it's the only choice.

Biscuit Delivery a perfect choice for both sustain and aggressive behavior.

Time Warp Tonic - Since in this build you have a Corrupting Potion and Biscuit Delivery it only makes sense to take this rune. It's in great help. It doesn't only make all of your potions and biscuits stronger but it also gives you 5% Movement Speed.

Bone Plating - Makes you tankier and helps you in lane.

Chrysalis - Gives you extra 50HP early which gives you space to fill up with your potions so to say. After you get some kills and assists it will give you much needed AD.

Conditioning - If you wanna be a baby tank, you can take some extra MR and Armor but i don't recommend it for often use.
