Hello, I am ScarViision and I am currently playing on the EUW servers. I have mained Varus as a ADC, but nowadays he is also played mid a lot.

I know this is not the best Varus guide, but this is a guide that worked for me
With no further a do, lets get straight into it

Pros & Cons

[+] Insane attack speed [+] A lot of life steal [+] Quite some team fight potential

[-] Less dueling potential as with a normal ADC build [-] Hard teamfight positioning [-] Not really strong early game, monster late game

Runes & Masteries

We will discuss 3 rune pages in this build,



This is the main rune page for Varus but we can edit a couple of things such as:

• We can replace the damage marks for armor penetration marks
• We can replace the scaling armor seals for flat armor seals (not recommended!
• We can replace the scaling magic resist glyphs for flat magic resist glyphs not recommended

attack speed is essential in this build, and the early Cooldown reduction will help us through the first couple of levels in the laning phase.

Summoner Spells

As for Summoner spells I take:

Ignite is a regular pick for the mid Varus, but this is not a bad pick for the adc Varus , this boosts the killing potential

Flash is a must for Varus, due to his lack of mobility he needs some sort of escape tool, although this summoner spell can also be used as an engage tool

Champion Abilities // Skilling Order

, this is the passive of Varus, when killing a minion, it grants him a 20% attack speed boost, as for a champion kill/assist, it grants him a 40% attack speed boost.

, this is the q ability, when the key is hold, Varus gradually draws back his bow, increasing the range of the ability as well as the damage output.

, this is a passive ability (W) of varus, every auto attack gains extra magic damage as well as adding a stack of the ability. These stacks can be procced by either using Piercing Arrow, Hail of Arrows or Chain of Corruption. This will result in extra damage equal to a percentage of the enemys maximum health

, this is the e ability. When pressed, Varus launches a hail of arrows, inflicting damage on the champions that are hit by the ability, as well as applying a decent slow.

, this is the ultimate. When pressed, Varus launches a tendril. If this hits an enemy, he/she will be damages as well as being immobilized

Starting Items

Doran's Blade + 1x Health Potion is a start that is optimal in most situations, for mid lane as well as add

Crystalline Flask + 2x Health Potions + 1x Mana Potion, this is a start when the early game difference between you and your opponents is too big.

Core Build

---

This is an item that is not a regular pick, but it suits Varus better than you'll think. Extra attack speed will synergyse with his passive Living Vengeance, Extra cool down reduction so he can fire his q Piercing Arrow more often, as well as the other abilities. It gives Varus extra movement speed, which increased mobility. His mobility is also increased because Zephyrs passive allows him to be freed faster when he is hit with cc effects.

This is, yet again, an amazing item for Varus. Extra attack speed, as well as extra movement speed and extra critical strike chance.

Extra damage, attack speed and life steal are much appreciated. But the passive and active of the Blade of the Ruined King will increase the damage output of Varus significantly.

Offensive Items

This item is a big power spike on Varus, with the Blade of the Ruined King + Bloodthirster, Varus will get 30% extra life steal, with the attack speed, he can regain life really quickly. But the plain 80 damage gained from Bloodthirster will increase the damage output a lot.

This item is practically the same as the Phantom Dancer, but this will give Varus more movement speed, more critical strike chance and attack speed, but the passive is the reason we buy the Statikk Shiv, this item increased Varus burst damage a lot.

This item gives 80 flat damage, as well as increasing the critical strike chance with 20%. But the passive of the Infinity Edge is, again, the reason we buy this item for Varus. The increase of the critical strike damage is increased to 250% instead of 200%, with some critical strike chance, this will increase the burst damage a lot.

This item gives 40 flat damage, as well as the possibility of ignoring 35% of the enemy's armor, which will increase the damage output a lot.

Defensive Items

This item gives 60 flat damage, and magic resist. Take this item when the enemy has a lot of ability power champions, and take this over the Banshee's Veil when not really far behind

This item gives magic resist, and extra hit points. Take this item when the enemy has a lot ability power champions, and when far behind

This item gives a lot of armor, buy this item when the enemy has 4/5 damage orientated champions (excluding support), and behind.

The ultimate item to top off Varus build. It gives a sort of "respawn" and extra armor + magic resist.

How to build?

Normally you should build something:
Core + 2xOffensive Item + 1xDefensive Item

But when far behind build something like:
Core + 1xOffensive Item + 2xDefensive Item

How to fight as varus?

---

Varus should position himself behind the front lines, so he won't take as much damage as possible. Because this Varus build has so much attack speed, using your ultimate Chain of Corruption to lock down enemy's is really easy.

When dueling, be sure to land 2-3 auto attack before using any ability !. This will increase the damage output because now Varus's passive Blighted Quiver will do a lot of extra damage.
