God help you... this guy pokes hard early game to deny you precious CS and passive stacks, all-in's you at midgame, and comes from nowhere to one shot you lategame. This is the WORST matchup for Veigar. I recommend banning him every time if you can.
Fizz
This is a painful matchup. Fizz isn't as dangerous as Talon but he certainly is a major threat to Veigar. Essentially, if you get an early kill on him, you can win, but not easily...and if he kills you or forces you out of lane, you will lose. Mid/late game if you miss your E, then he kills you every time, even if you're under turret.
Lux
Skill Matchup. I recommend picking up boots early and also switching out Teleport for Cleanse.
Ahri
She's a pain in the ***, but it's essentially a skill matchup like Lux, just a bit harder to play against. I also recommend getting boots early if against an Ahri. And please god...land your E's or you will be punished hard.
Azir
Not many Azirs these days, but the game's I've played against him, you can farm pretty safely from a distance with Q. I strongly urge you not to all in Azir because once you're out of position, he will kill you because of your poor move speed with his poke and R displace. Play safe and not aggressive.
Malzahar
A bit tricky, as it forces you to play defensive. You can auto down Malzahar's shield, and then full combo him to death, but it can be tricky. Most of the time, you want to kill him from a safe distance so he can't R you. While farming, just be wary of his Malefic Visions which will sting quite a bit if you let it hit you. Just stay back from minions a bit to let it wear off.
Annie
YES! A great matchup for Veigar. Annie's always build straight AP so your ultimate will scale EVEN harder. Just pay attention to when she has stun ready and poke her down until you can all in combo for the win.
Akali
Pretty hard lane... you have to play this very safe, as once she gets melee range, she tears you apart. When you E her, she will likely use her W (teleport) out of it, or inside of it and run around invisible. Just farm under tower and punish any mistake she makes with a quick Q or a well placed E.
Ryze
Another fairly easy matchup. Just beware of his Q once he puts flux on you, as it will blow you up. Stay out of his Rune Prison Range, and all in after poking him down a bit.
Syndra
Syndra is a pretty OP character in my opinion, but she can be beaten with good decision making and positioning. Harass her with Q's and never run near her when her E is up. You can keep her at bay with a well place E so you can farm for 5-6 seconds freely.
Aurelion Sol
Ez pz. Slow dragon with next to no long range poke? Hit him with 2 or 3 Q's, then combo him down for easy kills.
Katarina
Katarina can be tough if she gets an early lead in either CS or kills. Be wary of where the daggers are, as she can pick them up and slice you for half your health in the blink of an eye. However, her somewhat slow move speed, and lack of CC leave her very vulnerable to your basic combo (EWQ) and full combo (EWQR)
Twisted Fate
Fairly easy matchup. You need to watch out for when he roams, and warn other lanes. He will most certainly roam at lvl 6 because he's TF... and since you're Veigar you really can't chase unless you TP to where he is quickly. As far as laning goes, play safe from Lvl 1-3, and start harassing after those levels, as he needs to get fairly close to land his gold card, and all you need is to land an E from far away and then simply drop the dark matter on his forehead.
Zed
Not an easy lane whatsoever. You should build Zhonya's FIRST. By level 6 or 7, you should have it ready for when he all-ins you. The extra armor it gives will help with his painful poke. Don't try to all in him until you KNOW for a fact that he will die to Q-R combo. He will not be as susceptible to an E because of his shadow and usually his decent move speed.
Karthus
Give me a break. Full AP midlaner? Slow move speed? Only harass is a spammable skillshot? This guy is cake. Poke all day with Q's, and land your E and he's dead for sure. Despite it being an easy lane, I would recommend building a little MR as his ultimate at the lategame stage does quite a big chunk of damage.
Orianna
A challenging lane. Her orb does nice damage to you, but your Q after level 5 should deal equal amounts of damage. Play this carefully, and don't be afraid to back if you think she can all in you with her ultimate combo. Losing some CS is better than feeding her 300 gold.
Hey there, welcome to my first basic guide: Veigar Midlane. I tell you which items I believe to be the absolute best choices based on my countless games with Veigar (70k mastery and climbing). Veigar is a rather easy champ, but playing him really well obviously takes skill. After you get comfortable with Veigar, you start to make some nice plays without even realizing it. It feels so amazing to land a perfect E and 100-0 burst anyone in the game, or to cut off the ADC with your W or E and dispatch him quickly to win the teamfight. In my honest opinion, Veigar's E ability: Event Horizon is the BEST mix of both CC and zoning available in the game. Now let's get to the rest of the basics of this Veigar guide...
Runes
Runes
Basically always go with Flat AP Quints, with Magic Resist glyphs, Magic Penetration marks, and Armor seals. You can also swap out AP quints with Movement Speed Quints if you're not that confident in your ability to dodge skillshots as easily.
Masteries
Masteries
The reason I don't take thunderlord's is simply because in order to proc it you need to land 2 autos and a q which will simply open you up to too much return damage. Windspeaker's (after Level 6 power spike) will almost always proc once you land a clean W or R. This is sooo important on Veigar because frankly, his mobility is complete trash. After landing a W or securing a kill, you can run away to safety in the blink of an eye, effectively making you an AP assassin (in a way).
Pros / Cons
Pros / Cons
Pros:
Can burst ANYONE late game
Gains enormous amounts of AP with his passive
E is excellent for zoning or CC in both teamfights and in lane
W can practically oneshot enemy ADC's if they don't see it in time
Has a laugh that will tilt the other laner quickly
Cons:
Slow movement speed
Reliant on farming
Squishy
Auto attacks are quite slow (have to get used to the timing)
