Why Pick Abyssal Mask over a AP Item
You want Abyssal Mask because you are constantly immobilizing them, that extra 15% increased dmg is to good to pass up. Vex is also Squishy so the abyssal mask helps with that also.
I also like to use the haste boots since you get enough magic pen from your mythic and I like to increase my mana with archangels staff for that AP boost plus on top of that mana.

Switching Runes
You can remove Transcendence if you dont want the extra haste to Scorch or Gathering Storm
The bonus stats you can also go Double AP with Magic Resist. Personally I like the haste build of it.
