The Lane you will need to be as crit plank is mostly top/solo top. This will be better for your farm because nobody will be stealing it, and your Q will be more effective for getting the extra gold that it gives you. The best kinda of people to be laned against are non-tanks/ and close range champs. The only exception to tanks are champs like Volibear, Chogath, Garen, Nasus, and even Tryndamere.
