Also try setting an fps cap and turning off v-sync. Try capping it at 60 first. If you see no improvement, maybe try 30 if you think you can tolerate playing at around 30.
Distance from your router can cause ping spikes, so if you're having issues with that too that's probably the cause.

fps only has to do with your computers speed

Game 26:

Thank you guys so much~ <3 I opened up task manager in game (this game was last night), and Skype was actually taking up a lot of memory. My laptop's getting pretty old (5 years now) so closing Skype helped out a lot. There were still a couple of spikes every now and then, but it was wayyy better than before. Towards the mid-late phases of the game, I tried capping it at 30 and it didn't spike again.

closing something you don't recognize is a pretty bad idea. Only close processes when you know you won't need them. If you are unsure what something you wanna close is, ask google(this is pretty unrealistic when you are ingame so do it before the game starts).
I AM NOT AFFECTED BY ELOHELL. NOOBS AND TROLLS NEVER RUIN MY RANKED GAMES.
I DON'T GET STUCK AND I NEVER GET ONLY 2LP FOR A WIN.
I AM UNRANKED.

eh not necessarily, anything bad can be fixed by restarting and will 99% of the time give a warning that you'll have to shut down if you end the process
and if you don't recognize something it's probably not labelled clearly...and 99% of the time important processes are labelled very clearly
(Team) Game 1:

Alright! First game in our provisionals was a win~ <3 Heh, sorry my dearest teammates if I seemed a little mean that game, I really wanted to win :3
So this game was really intense. I lagged a lot early game, and died about 2-3 times because of it, but I managed to fix it for late game. There was a lot of back and forth, and honestly both teams were really even (good job rito matchmaking for once!). Mid inhib on both sides was taken down at least 3 times by each team, and the few rotations we pulled off were awesome. However, that being said, as a team we really need to work on our communication. Sometimes we would go into 4v5 scenarios because we weren't really on the same page, but that can easily be fixed once we get some sort of call going (Ventrilo, Skype, RaidCall, etc.)

Thanks to XeresAce for the sig!

my early game was pretty ****ty. I was at half gnars farm for a long time and he was freezing the lane on me. Eventually i came closed the farm deficit some and i was pretty tanky but just one time i would like to safely get some damage on sion because i'm ahead and not have to play from behind. I may have gone in a few times where it wasn't the best decision as well.
Nebrasketball, drakon, and I got the team ranked on TT last night so that is a thing

What exactly did you do to check what's running?
Haven't tried anything yet :/ I actually do usually have Skype running, so next time I play I'll try ending that app and seeing if that helps.
