Doran's Shield: Top lane item, or ADC item?

Getting a Doran's shield isn't worth it without the unique passive. If I still needed more defense, I would grab a cloth instead. Then if I STILL needed more, I would consider a ruby. Most people start with a long sword for vamp scepter. do you really need an extra 30 AD just to last hit? Also, the 5 HP per hit outways the armor, but not the unique passive. Taking 6 damage of an autoattack is greater than the 5 from yours, if you think about it that way. However, as I stated in the OP: It is not worth getting a [[doran's shield]] if you only plan to farm, with the occasional damage trade here and there unless you are against a [[caitlyn]]. You want doran's shield when you plan on fighting the enemy lane to the death, or they plan on doing the same. (or against a carry that outranges you, and is poking a lot.
