^ The difference being that Riven is one of the best junglers in the game, and that Skarner's far from it
Comparing Riven to Skarner is like comparing Trundle to Gragas or something...
Skarner isn't very good at the moment. He needs some sustainability and a REAL ganking method like a Leona style E. His ganks bring nothing to the table until he's level 6 - and even then it's a melee ult.

I still don't see how he fits into the meta.
People like junglers to be able to gank before lvl 6 and honestly hes on decent before then.

With the new changes, his damage output may be significant enough to warrant more widespread use. It's true that most of the top junglers have some form of CC in their three basic abilities, but if Skarner can get into a fight quick enough and put out enough hurt, that will be successful.
It all depends. His kit doesn't fit too well, but we'll see when it actually gets settled down.

SKARNER BUFFS YAY. <3 JUNGLE SKARNER NEWW METAAA. I CAN SENSE IT.
Skarner's really gonna be a strong pick though. He himself already has amazing clearing speed. With that bit of a sustain buff he's gonna be godly. <3
Wait, you've not been jungling with Skarner?
I jungle with the weirdest people, i.e. Riven and Skarner. People don't expect me to do that good, but my ganks are damn effective, if I say so myself :D
Enough of the ego...
I really think Lane Skarner have much more room to spam Crystal Slash when needed. Half the time, he runs out of mana even when he isn't Q-ing all the time because of the increasing costs.
