Shyvana released - considered weak

Shyvana is nerfed directly after being showcased by M5 at IEM that she's actually very strong
*Burnout extra duration reduced from 6 to 4 seconds
*Dragon's Descent armor and MR reduced by from 15/20/25 to 10/15/20

*On same patch Lifesteal nerfs are also applied which nerf Wriggle's Lantern - lifesteal goes down from 15% to 12%
Indirectly nerfing Shyvana because she has zero sustain in her kit.

April 18, 2012
*Atma's Impaler is nerfed from 2% to 1.5% - a core item on Shyvana
Another indirect nerf to Shyvana

At this point Shyvana was still OK , overshadowed by the ganking junglers like Alistar , Maokai and Nautilus but still picked sometimes

December 4, 2012 - S3 Patch
*Heart of Gold removed - Core item on Shyvana
*Attack speed nerfed - Core stat on Shyvana
*Wriggle's Lantern lifesteal nerfed to 10% - Indirectly nerfing her sustain further
*Phage cost upped to 1465 from 1315. - Core item on Shyvana since she has no CC in her kit

Jungle Remake-
Jungle is remade to be more single target oriented , indirectly nerfing Shyvana because she relies on AoE clear
and also jungle monsters damage is increased , indirectly nerfing Shyvana because she has zero sustain without items

And this is how we got to this point where Shyvana is weak.
She needs fixes and I hope Riot realizes it soon"

Your analysis seems a little one-sided. The s3 jungle changes made farming much more profitable than it was before, making it easier for shyv to keep up even when there aren't many gank opportunities. Basically all of her targets will have 25 less movement speed than before for early game ganks, making Burnout more valuable as a gap closer.

I also think Ravenous Hydra is pretty strong on her, at least from my own experience with her in s3.

She could maybe do with a couple small tweaks to give her more of an edge, but it's not as if she's hopelessly weak right now. I just don't think she brings enough to the team compared to a lot of the other strong junglers at the moment.

She most definitely is one of the most exciting champions to play. I am the designated jungler in my ranked team, AnthraxSandwich. In my first 10 ranked games, I played shyvana 5 times, and won every single game with her.

What people don't think about, is her strength with counterjungling. With the exceptions of maybe Dr. Mundo, olaf, and maybe like 2 other uber tanky junglers, she can out-duel any other jungler. Her counter-jungling is especially effective if you get manly and choose Exhaust rather than Flash.

With that in mind, her utility increases monumentally. Here is a not-so-uncommon situation that you are in.

For instance, lets say you are on the blue team. At around the 9:00 mark, you run to the brush above middle lane hoping for a gank. Your mid-lane fails to bait the AP carry successfully. Because the enemy bot lane support has vision on river, and your support was too cheap to buy a pink ward, you run to purple team's jungle to try to kill wraiths... The wraiths aren't there. Well, that means that the jungler has recently killed them... And the jungler (lets say it's Lee sin) isn't exactly mid, soo......

You just saved your teammate against a gank. But you see, while Lee sin was camping top, you just took his red buff, and pinged your AP mid to push lane and come to the red buff for some extra help. Lee sin facechecks red-buff brush on his way to wraiths, and your AP mid steals your well-earned kill like the little ***** she is (jokes)

This counter jungling just changed the game. It gave your Mid Tempo over the opposing AP mid. Lee sin's jungling route has been completely and utterly destroyed, and he will need to farm back for quite a while to mitigate his experience & gold potential lost. Your solotop lane, and depending on the CC the enemy midlaner and jungler have, your solomid should be fine too. In addition, you gain significant jungle pyourself the effects of a frozen mallet until the the 14:50 mark (YOUR red buff should respawn around 11:30 or something - right when Lee sin's red buff ends). Your ganks will be god-like, and lastly, with the advantage you just gained, you can most likely force a fight at dragon.

Basic message of the story is that, shyvana can and should most of the time be played differently from a normal jungler. Her weak early level ganks are compensated for by her dangerous jungle presence. Keep in mind that map awareness helps a lot with shyvana, as you could see in my analysis.

Ravenous Hydra is a beautiful item on shyvana. While I prefer to build attack speed and health on my shyvana, The sheer stats that this item gives is just too good to pass up on. Plus, it synergizes well with Twin Bite, especially in dragon TROGDORRR form.

Im not trying to say shes weak since i main her and i know her better than any other champ but she keeps taking hit after hit by an indirect nerf hammer, even a slight nerf would make me happy like giving Burnout and Dragon's Descent their initial values, just look at Riots mindset: "Oh she finally gets used properly? NERF"

My main is Nocturne and he's been nerfed consistently since release. I know that feel bro.

I assume you mean her initial release. As you saw at the end of season 2, Shyv actually had counters, you could play Udyr and Dr. Mundo and clear the jungle fast enough before she could counter jungle. That's it, 2 champions that could clear the jungle as fast as she could. Once people learned how to use her she was the best jungler bar-none, and M5 showed that. Nerfs were a necessity, and as Psi pointed out, a ton of champions have been nerfed harder than she has. In all honesty she's been kept intact pretty well given how dominating she was in all of Season 2.

Like I said, she doesn't fit the current meta, not that she needs buffs. The game is a much faster pace than it used to be. Taking towers as early as possible is the norm and tower diving occurs as early as level 3, shyvanna can't really dive or gank effectively. Resource denial needs to occur over a long period of time to start to actually affect an enemy team and games are simply moving faster than that. There are now new ways to resource deny, and thats by gaining map control through taking towers and denying vision, which as of right now, is a hell of alot more effective than counter-jungling for 20 minutes and then using that minor advantage you've built up to win fights
