Keeps bugging me all the time.

Since there aren't many around playing him atm I just put the thought on hold until he showed up again.

So, how the heck do you EFFECTIVELY counter him?

[tl;dr]
He only fights you 1vs1 early, so no focus.
He doesn't need anything except mana.
He has slow/MS/dmg boost/life steal etcetcetc.
He's the most annoying hit&run ***** around.
He builds pur tank except for TF and still dishes out "tons of dmg".
Even while doing moderate harass dmg to you he can still push the lane.
Infact he has the same base dmg as any other melee and still doubles his output as long as his ulti is around.
Even if you do manage to take him down, without an instant escape tool he can still deal "tons of dmg" to drag you with him.
Okay, he's less durable than other melee champs, but in fact he doesn't fight you on melee-range until you're already worn down.

Maybe in all that I forgot sth.
Until now I couldn't come up with sth that can manage to counter a decent Yorick early on.
Even with a heavy melee champ that has a advantage in close combat, a good Yorick just stays too far away while still pushing the lane and *****slapping you, too.
[/tl;dr]

So some ideas anyone, except for "play champ x or y" ...?

Trundle.
Olaf.
Nasus.

The key to winning vs him is to not ***** out. Actually fight the ghouls. Build early lifesteal and armor.

I play a lot of Yorick, I consider him my main. The real solution to him is to gank early, or find a top with enough DPS early to just kill him. Tryndamere works, but you cannot poke fight Yorick. You have to straight up murder his *** and make him scared to even walk into his lane.

A smart Yorick will poke you away until you can't farm, except under tower. This way he has reign over midgame and can tank carry his team to victory. Try to poke back, and he will out sustain you. Find someone with a gap closer and high DPS. Ignite helps. That is all the advice I am willing to give without risking too much. :P

Eh. There's only one method really.

You have to wear down his mana bar, keep up in farm, and hope to be higher impact late game.

When he's got no mana you can bully him. Until then, he bully's you.

That's all fine, I mean yeah I have some champs that can deal with him early, but that doesn't matter since you can't get ****ING close to him. Just not possible.
You can waste flash ofc, but that's not what it means to effectively counter him.
And even if you possess a good gap-closer you cant kill him in 2-3 secs and after that you will be slowed, he speed buffed and you will additionally have to deal with his pests.

You cant outzone him nor can you even use brushes against him. He'll just start to drop ghoules on you till you have to retreat or drop to low allowing him to take you down.

He's one hell of a hit&run harasser and what makes it worse is the fact that he can avoid direct combat WAY too good.

@Duff
That already came to mind ofc, since Yorick without ghouls < average melee < yorick with ghouls.
But how the **** do you wear down somebodies mana if THAT's his one and only weak point/the thing he has to worry about early?

I mean: Start with Mana crystal and if you still have some probs get Mana Seals -> profit.
IMO that would be the same as trying to drain Ryze's mana...
If you can manage to wear down his mana, Yorick can still buy himself Tear without having the slightest intention to build Manamune, totally worth it if that means for him to dominate his lane..

When he gets tear it's hard, but even with mana crystal his mana can be drained.

The other method is kill him full to zero every time you get to lane. Not many champs can do this, you'll need like an Akali with Ignite or something, and super hard engage him to death. No backing out and harassing ********, I'm talking balls deep, ignite, blow everything for the kill kind of fights.

There is a window where you might be able to shut him down if enemy jungler isn't camping top and you have a murder face champion.

I'm thinking Fiora would be a good counter, if played well.

Or, you could play ranged champions with good poke, like Nidalee.

Yeah but Akali can't do anything without hitting lvl 6...

And still a solution like "You HAVE to play champ x,y" doesn't cut it, if "x,y" doesn't succeed more than 5 champs at least...

And if I listen to your/busdrivers solutions it sounds like being already at a disadvantage the moment you have to face him on lane...

@tehAsian
You mean Nid like "AP spear-poking Nid" ???
Not bloody likely... the worst thing against him is having to rely on skillshots which only affect the first target...

Fiora? Maybe. Good gap-closer, but Riposte is totally useless against him (Blade Waltzer only targets champs and would ignore Yorick's ulti I guess)

No. There is no poking Yorick =_=

There is outlasting his mana bar and full to zero murderfacing Yorick. Nothing else :p

But yeah I prefer super sustainers that are good all game. Trundle is my pick vrs Yorick.
