If his passive counts as a spell, you could get use for lich bane out of it. Not incredible use, but it would still work.
I messed around with him last night on the PBE. I can confirm the stars from his passive (or the pushed out stars from his W) do not trigger

I'm trying to figure out the ideal build for him. At first, it seems like the natural build would be

CDR is a wasted stat on Aurelion. His W doesn't get affected by it and his E doesn't add damage, so unless you plan on doing a lot of E+Q+insec R combos I wouldn't care about it. So
Morellonomicon and
Athene's Unholy Grail are suboptimal on him and
Rod of Ages is doubly useful since he needs the HP as a short/middle range mage and uses the flat mana instead of the mana regen.
I recommend
Rod of Ages,
Rylai's Crystal Scepter,
Sorcerer's Shoes,
Abyssal Mask,
Zhonya's Hourglass and
Void Staff as a generic all around build, with some order variations depending on the game.

I recommend

You could also build
Seraph's Embrace on him since he stacks it really well.

you want RoA for the HP and the bigger mana pool so you can keep W on longer, and no mana regen doesnt make mana redundant
Of course they're redundant. The key question is do you have enough mana to do what you want in between trips back to base for other reasons. Both straight mana and mana regen helps with this goal. In this case, between

Regarding Aurelian Sol's W, it only costs 40 mana plus 14 mana/sec, so in a ten second fight (which is a long fight), it'll cost only 180 mana all told. It's not going to be straining your mana pool.

I think the key idea would be that you can build a
