Aaand now I've watched the first episode of even more things! As a warning, there will be minor plot spoilers in this, but I don't figure anyone will mind too much. I mean, it's the first episodes of these things.

Kyoukai no Kanata looks like it could be very interesting. Certainly they pulled off the first fifteen minutes or so quite well, while the latter half had a bit of an exposition dump which might not've been necessary. Still, I very much enjoyed it. Thus far it's the best anime I've seen from this season. It's looking like it'll be a feelings-oriented drama with a bit of action on the side. Immortal male lead gets stabbed a lot by female counterpart because she's afraid of fighting real bad things, so far.

Golden Time looks like it'll be solid, but not particularly good. Older characters are nice, but I don't get the impression that it's going to deliver a much more mature narrative than most anime. It's a straight up romance, I'm pretty sure. We've got a bland male lead on his first day of law school, running into some interesting other characters. Probably is gonna' involve romance between the male lead and the girl most prominently featured in the art, but she starts out kinda' obsessed with another guy--who our male lead befriends before we meet her--so this could get interesting.

I don't know what's up with Coppelion yet. I don't really know what it is. The first episode didn't really give me much to work with except some characters and maybe a bit of the beginning of what might be story. Oh, and a cliffhanger, for no apparent reason. Still, I get the feeling it's mostly gonna' be a drama. Some kind of post-apocalyptic story about genetically modified girls running around and doing stuff in an irradiated (or otherwise uninhabitable) Tokyo (or other "Old Capital"); I just don't know what the actual plot is supposed to be. Art is interesting and very stylized, which is a nice break from the more standard look of most of what I'm watching. Writing is... I'm not sure. I've got a feeling this is going to end up not very good, simply because it hasn't actually grabbed my attention in any real way yet.

Kill la Kill is... Not something I'm going to watch. The art is interesting. Reminds me a lot of Panty and Stocking. Like, a lot. Action scenes look pretty damn good. But, like Panty and Stocking, I can't deal with the stupid oversexualization. In the context of this stylized art, it just kills my immersion, and I find myself thinking of how stupid all the underboob and such is rather than watching the anime. I can understand why one could enjoy it--I sure as hell was for a lot of the first episode--but I'm not going to watch episode 2.

I don't know what to make of Nagi no Asukara. I didn't really make it through the first episode yet. Not for any real reason, either. It's just that there's people living underwater and I don't get it and not much was really there for me to grab onto. And I'd just gotten pissed at Kill la Kill and wasn't in a mood to watch anime, I think. I'll have to come back to it later. Maybe tomorrow, maybe I won't get around to it.

Strike the Blood looks like it's gonna' shape up to be a pretty mediocre action series. Vampires and other demon nonsense living with humans, a bland male lead thrust into this supernatural mess through no fault of his own, a female counterpart who is badass, showing this badass female counterpart to still be a girl through unnecessary fanservice, a huge exposition dump in the first episode.

Outbreak Company looks like it could be decent. Otaku gets thrust into fantasy setting, except his job is to bring okatu-stuff to said fantasy setting. The okatu male lead is fairly tame as some of them go, which keeps him fairly relate-able, so that's nice. I get the feeling that there's going to be some 8 episodes of the male lead basically horsing around in the fantasy setting, then something will come up in the last few episodes and it'll wrap up by making everything go back to basically the way it was in episode 9 and think it actually told a story. This has romcom written all over it, and I think I'm going to love it.

Freezing Vibration's first episode was okay. Which is unfortunate, because it really could've been much better. It seems to be working to deliver a much more serious story than the original Freezing did, which is great. The story does look like it could be serious and interesting and perhaps even good. But the anime suffers from one major, major problem that prevented the first episode from working very well, and that is gratuitous fanservice. Mostly in the way of nudity and uncensored breasts. Which are fine and all, I guess, but those sections really broke the tone of the story, which breaks immersion like crazy. And they also ate up a ton of time, so nothing really happened in the first episode.

Log Horizon is a .hack/SAO clone, setup-wise. People stuck in a video game. But it's more of an action and comedy series than a drama like either of those, as far as I can tell. I doubt it's going to be particularly good, but it feels like it'll be a nice and light series that's entirely enjoyable. It did pretty well on not dumping exposition too hard in the first episode, characters are relatively trope-y but engaging and play well off each other, and maybe there's even a plot already. Certainly the ending set up an obvious problem for the small group of main characters to go deal with immediately and hinted at a larger problem (the mysterious-enemy trope) for them to tackle later.

There's still a bunch that I've yet to sample from this season, but I figure this kind of dump would be too big if I did all the new series at once. So there'll probably be another one of these some time next week.

kyoukai looks pretty interetsing

nagi no asukara's a rare serious love anime. i think it could be pretty good.

If you're looking for some really good anime this season i suggest machine doll + tokyo ravens (dunno the romaji). I read both the light novels and they're both pretty good.

The synopsis for Machine Doll makes it seem really bad..

Wait, you have a problem with the fanservice in Kill la Kill, but not with the fanservice in HSotD? O.o
(making assumptions here, I've seen neither, and I may remember your thoughts on HSotD wrong)

This made me curious, so I googled "Freezing Fanservice" and it seems the manga is a LOT more tame when it comes to fanservice.
There's very rarely any actual nudity in the manga.

Eh. Synopses are useless for evaluating anime. There are too many with stupid premises and poorly-written synopses that turn out to be pretty good (a lot of hero-and-demon-king anime fall into this category), and too many with great premises, awesome worlds, and engaging synopses that turn out to be garbage (I'm thinking K and No. 6 here).

Yeah. I'm not sure why, but I do. Might have to do with how male characters react to the fanservice elements, but I'm not sure. I'll hafta' think about it.

I hate to be the bad news guy but ..

There will probably be a season 2, considering the success it actually has, aswell as the actual hype around the manga. (You know, the anime version finishes, people go for online scans)

There will be an OVA of the 18.5 chapter(if it's not out already), other than that the anime is over, for now.

Just go read the manga if you want more, it's flat out better than the anime anyways.

I don't like to read mangas online.

I'll wait for news of season 2

I'm not sure how Machine Doll is gonna be like, but the light novel was definitely innovative and a fun read.

Golden time seems pretty interesting

So, I watched some more anime. Woo. Again, plot spoilers may follow.

Meganebu! and Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai! both look like they're going to be bad. The first episodes of both were major turnoffs for me. Meganebu! has too many polkadots and doesn't look like it's going to involve anything except pretty mediocre comedy. Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai! is a pretty blatant fanservice grab, and I don't think I'm interested in a new one of those right now. Besides, fanservice grabs are a dime a dozen, without any of them being good.

Walkure Romanze could be interesting. Looks like a romance with some action bits, from the first episode. Has horses and jousting, although the setting doesn't make any real kind of sense, with traditional jousting mixed with wireless headsets and Japanese sayings (at least, what claim to be Japanese sayings). So far it looks interesting, but I'm not sure it'll be good. There are some clear fanservice nods, through clothing ripping, bust size, and armor design--you know, the female breast plates that would KILL YOU if they were real. Art budget is fairly low, given the simplicity of the characters and pretty obvious use of CG in pretty much all the action sequences. Female characters are pretty trope-y, too.

Gingitsune looks like it'll be decent. Shrine maiden is the only one who can see fox spirit of her shrine, hijinks ensue, et cetera. Given the setup, it'll probably be a coming of age story a la Natsume Yuujinchou. I'll probably enjoy it, but I get the feeling that it's going to be a slow one.
