I think a few champions can afford to do away with the pots by shifting their playstyle slightly - all Vladimir needs to do is not get harassed until around level 5, for example.
It also depends on how hard the items are buffed in terms of stats, because that could be gamechanging.
With the nerf to early game health and mana regeneration, however, I feel like Doran's items are still a hard choice to pass up. Note that while its early game viability is slightly nerfed, Doran's Blade stacking will become slightly stronger because of the buff.

I never used potions anyways, so it doesn't matter to me. I rarely use Doran's items as well, so this won't affect me in the least. When I do use the doran's items, it will benefit me. Mostly because I hardly get around to selling them anyways.

I completely agree with your idea about changing up the style of play early on. However, I'm not understanding where the rest of your info is coming from. I didn't see in the video where it said that the items' stats would be buffed. I only heard them say that the cost would increase.
Also, I do not see where they really said anything about nerfing your health and mana regen rates. They only addressed that masteries, runes and items would be changed.
I'm not saying that you're wrong and I'm right. I'm just wondering if there's more information that I'm missing.

"Doran's itrms are being compensated in stats for their increase in cost, so it's not a net loss."
They're getting buffed.
Also they explicitly mentioned nerfs to mana regen runes, masteries, and the strength of spirit mastery. When I said "nerf in health and mana regen rates", I was referring to those changes. Base health and mana regen are actually being buffed.

Thank you for clarifying that Jebus. As I said before, I didn;t know if i was right or not. I figured I was missing something. That's good that they're buffing them a bit to compensate for their increase in price.
However, I am a bit ticked off about them nerfing the mana regen runes. I didn't spend my hard earned IP's on those runes only to have them be 'Indian Givers' and nerf them right out from under me. I realize that they say its not much and that we won't even notice but still. Am I over-reacting?

That's a bit wrong too. They are shifting some of the mana regen from the runes to actual base stats so thats why they say you won't notice it. I understand the reasoning, the runes WERE a bit too strong which is why they were one of the most popular sets. This is also true with the flat hp quints. It made the other choices not as worthwhile. So if you think if it this way, it wasn't a nerf to these runes, but a "buff" to the others.

Alas, yet again Riot has succeeded in not clarifying what they actually mean. I really think they need to work on that sort of thing...

I'm just curious about others' opinions on the matter. One build that I commonly use involves buying Doran's Shield and a mana potion. Since this will no longer be a viable option, I'm thinking of changing my starting item to a Ruby Crystal in order to retain the increase in health while allowing myself to pursue a new route to a new item in my build that I was already considering.
Will others plan to do similar things or will they continue to buy Doran's items and just do away with the pots?
