I saw a dude build Heart of Gold+ Vampiric Scepter instead of 2x Doran's Blade, he started with boots ofc. And I actually thought it was a good idea. So I've tested it a few times and I like it, a lot.

2x Doran's Blade 950g, 160 hp, 20 AD, 6% lifesteal
Heart of Gold 825g, 250 hp, 5 gp/10
Vampiric Scepter 450g, 10% lifesteal

Pros
Cons

Edit: Could also be applied for top lane, building Vampiric Scepter into Wriggle's Lantern instead.

I don't see any reason why you would ever build a HoG on an AD Carry.
You want damage, you want lane control. Dorans Blades are the mandatory choice.

Not necessarily, if you got a passive lane duo and not a kill lane this would probably be a wiser choice. And the extra hp makes you a lot beefier against gankers.

I feel that Doran's Blade is better suited for poke/kill lanes and Heart of Gold+ Vampiric Scepter better suited for passive lanes.

With that, I agree. if you can freeze the lane with a mobile carry + soraka duo and pretty much stay there forever, sure, get dem hearts of goldez.

On the other hand, if the lane stays frozen for ages, you may return to the base and realize it'd be kinda unnecessary to get that HoG + Vampiric. Depends on how much farm was done

If the lane stays really passive from start and you got 1600+ gold the first trip back you would probably buy a B. F. Sword, it's always situational.

If I was against a bot lane that consisted of Soraka + AD with GP/10's I would cry myself to sleep. That lane means only one thing: ultimate passive farming.

If you want to make your enemies' eyes bleed from boredom, by all means go for it. You will be hitting like a wet noodle until you reach your The Bloodthirster, at which point you might even have a brief advantage due to the extra gold from your gp/10.

I don't think I could ever bring myself to play it though. I prefer more action in my bot lane picks.

I hate stacking Doran's items. One is really good early, but after that I actually start working on more useful items.

Why would you not insta Infinity Edge? It's the best AD item, and the best to finish first. I can't even discuss this, I've faced early PDs and early BTs with my Infinity, and faces proceeded to melt.

Well, if you want to buy infinty edge, you should buy Zeal after B. F. Sword. The combination of MS, AS and crit helps Infinity Edge to be very effective that early.

while Heart of Gold offers good lane presence, especially with a passive support, i din't realy like it since it doesn't build into anything useful for an AD carry late game.
also, the lack of doran's blades make it more difficult for the bottom lane to secure a kill, if your jungler comes to gank
