I know it's not unique, but it still feels like a waste to delay ROA.

catalyst the protector: 325 mana
Rod of Ages: 925 mana w/ bonus
difference: 600 mana
Glacial Shroud: 425 mana
Frozen Heart: 500 mana
difference: 75 mana
catalyst the protector: 325 mana
Banshee's Veil: 375 mana
difference: 50 mana
Tear of the Goddess: 2350 mana w/ bonus
Archangel's Staff: 2400 mana w/ bonus
difference: 50 mana
Sapphire Crystal: 200 mana
Sheen: 250 mana
Lich Bane: 350 mana
difference: 150 mana
I thought it was obvious why we upgrade RoA first and leave everything else until later.
The reason I took the difference between sapphire crystal and lich bane is because sheen doesn't give much more mana for the cost, and the mana is the only useful thing when upgrading.

The reason I said get
Tear of the Goddess last is because
Rod of Ages,
Glacial Shroud, and catalyst the protector (later built into
Banshee's Veil) all give survivability, while
Tear of the Goddess only gives mana and MP5. So in effect, get a tear is good for early game damage, but it'll make you much squishier. I think if you want to get it early, only get it after
Rod of Ages.

idk about you but if you're going to grab an archangels, i always grab the tear FIRST. then after that i can grab my other stuff.
i think this is also the first champion where you should have all the recommended items.

I like things that make me feel stupid. - Ken Levine
I've been starting with a sapphire crystal, and then if I'm doing well in the lane I build a tear, to start stacking mana. If I'm doing poorly, I buy a Catalyst to get some survivability. I then decide from there what would work best at any one time, like if they are very physical I might buy a glacial shroud before anything else. The new Ryze is very versatile and can be built in so many different ways, and that's a big part of why I really like him.

Stacking nowdays takes 10mins so it is still possible to stack it :) Also you dont need AP at all, so you would just waste 860g on that blasting wand.
Also 2x Cata = alot of boost while lvling since it is not passive UNIQUE.
If you feel like game ending you can hurry RoA completing before Archangel.
