But that's what happens, someone has an idea, and then makes a mistake, and rather than just not press their fingers to the keys (or open their mouth) they do, and then we have these kinds of things happening because of it. Simple solution? Cut off their hands.

Btw does anyone know where the makers of LOL keep like a database on the maths? I'd really love to compute the items instead of just randomly guessing which item is the best.

I hope it's not against the rules to link to competing sites, but the LeagueCraft champion builder is in my opinion the easiest way to compare two item builds. You can put in all the masteries and runes, so everything is taken into account, and they even calculate your AA DPS for you.
http://leaguecraft.com/builder/Caitlyn/

According to them, a Caitlyn at level 12 with 21 in offensive masteries, berserkers and IE does 265 DPS while PD would do 173, which fits very well with what lifebaka has been telling us.

Infinity Edge is almost always better (other then b.f sword followed by Zeal)

Kennen: B.F. Sword + Zeal + Pickaxe vs I.E. (10g difference)

Attack speed runes.

I.E.
Attack Speed: 1.505
Damage per Attack: 284
Damage per Second: 428

B.F. Sword Zeal
Attacks Speed: 1.644
Damage per Attack: 212
Damage per Second: 349

I.E. wins by ~23%, and 34% on single attack damage (kiting deeps)

Sivir: B.F. Sword + Zeal + Pickaxe vs I.E.

AD Marks/Quints

I.E.
Attack Speed: 1.287
Damage per Attack: 284
Damage per Second: 382

B.F. Sword Zeal
Attacks Speed: 1.418
Damage per Attack: 222
Damage per Second: 315

I.E. wins by ~21%, and 28% on damage per attack.

Graves: B.F. Sword + Zeal + Pickaxe vs I.E.

AD Marks/Quints

I.E.
Attack Speed: 1.174
Damage per Attack: 301
Damage per Second: 354

B.F. Sword Zeal
Attacks Speed: 1.301
Damage per Attack: 225
Damage per Second: 294

I.E. wins by 20%, and 33% on damage per attack.

I picked Kennen, Sivir, and Graves to show that attack speed scaling doesn't really make enough different to push zeal into a better position.

TL;DR: I.E. is better than Zeal+B.F. Sword, by a significant amount, no matter who you are.

Edit: If i can get enough of these cool item comparisons, i can make a guide to ad carries showing that B.F. Sword > Vamp Scepter > IE > PD > LW > BT is the most efficient AD Carry build through math.

It's a lot of work though, so i don't really want to just make it without a little bit more research.

Cait needs end game items fast. Her endgame is arguably worse than most other AD carries.

But her range compensate for that imo, she is by far the most easy AD-carry to position in team fights.
