Why is everyone getting Wriggles on WW?
He doesn't need the life steal and you'll down high HP monsters at the same speed with MBR.
Could someone explain why you benefit more from a Lantern than MBR?

Free ward, a lotlotlotlotlot stronger early game (you can hold a lane sooo much easier without blue buff). Better dragon control, stronger ganks (they can't kill you as easily as they would if you had madred's). Sure he doesn't need wriggle's but I feel like it's a lot better than rushing for the Madred's. I guess it's really personal preference and dependent on how much you've farmed.

People are just building him survivability because it's on his default recommended items that and one of the top builds on this site is doing the same. I build him AD carry still though and it still does just as or even better then this tank style, it all comes down to play style and how well you and your team communicate for ganks.

Warwick is a Bruiser.
He falls into the "TANKY DPS" Category.
Check his current in-game tags, even Riot recognizes this.
Madred's Bloodrazor is likely the best item for him, followed up by Wit's End.
This is because his Ultimate rules with on-hit effects.
However, to survive late-game, you need to bulk up more then their meager armor/mr.
Sunfire or GA, and FoN or Banshee's are very good picks.
This is not because his recommended items are misleading.
Warwick is a melee.
Previously, most people build him offensive because he was an excellent pubstomper; this lead people to think Warwick was bad late-game, because building offensive made him squishy.
However, good melee champions like Mordekaiser were always built tanky because of their melee status.
The existence of the TANKY DPS meta has encouraged people to realize that Warwick needs to bulk up. This has always been true, but overlooked by many.
