Akali vs. Graves

Around 1 or 2 weeks ago I had a game where I was playing akali toplane and I was going against a graves. I always lost against him but it was very close and I'm really ashamed XD the guy was platinum and I'm unranked so I think that I probably was just too bad but are there any tricks against a graves toplane to make it easier, or are there any good items on akali that work good against him? (normally I play support so I'm not that used to toplane)

Against after his rework, he can either do a lot of damage or he wont be able to hit you. What I mean by that is, autos can only hit the first champ or minion in front of him, granted a little bit of spray. But if you stand behind minions, he can't fully engage you. basically has to dive in on someones face to melt them down. And this is where thrives. It's a lot easier for him to just throw his W down, dash out, Auto you, then Q and you are less than half hp. With his W you can see him or anything else, so you lost all ability to engage him again. Now I don't ever believe in full countered champs. Because everything is a skills match up. But I would say 9/10 a skilled against a skilled the would win. If you see a on the other team, and you are for certain he isn't going Jungle. Then pick a top laner than has decent poke, so you can keep your distance from him. is good in that match up just for an example. Now to go into any tips for top lane, I'm guessing you go the Tank build on her. Obviously stack armor, for example. Poke from a distance, and stay passive. Call for jungler support, then dive on him. Either way it is a skills match up, so just get more proficient on her or try other champs top lane, that will offer your team CC and also good utility late game.

The only reason I say is because I main him in the jg mostly in Season 6, and I know his maximum damage output. Yes and her stealth will negate his smokescreen, but I still believe graves would win with the full combo, vs

As soon as you hit lvl 6 or Hextech you should win as Akali -- if you are even in gold. Make sure to use your stealth at the same time as he uses his Smoke Screen on you! Then he should not have any chance to win the fight. Perfect timing would be to time your engage with his passive -- the reload.
You do more dmg than him and he can't run away. The smoke is useless against your stealth so I don't see any chance for graves
