League of Legends (LoL) Question: When do you buy GP10 items (behind or ahead, etc. and why)?

When do you buy GP10 items (behind or ahead, etc. and why)?

I know GP10 items set you behind as you go into lane, but because of that, when do you buy it?

For example, when getting Youmuu's Ghostblade on Xin Zhao, I often opt for a Vampiric Scepter over an Avarice Blade because I rush Youmuu's Ghostblade as my first item, and I prefer the extra AD and life-steal from Vampiric Scepter, even if I'm having a hard time in lane.

Still, the question on when to get GP10 annoys me as I used to go GP10 mid before I started playing all-in assassin champions.

    Never.

Before when Hog existed, you bought GP10 on bruisers when you were ahead because you wanted to secure your advantage.

Nowadays the meta for bruisers focuses around fast-paced itemization to play into max effect. Philo, Kage's, and Avarice don't function well for any top laner at the moment for an early rushed item and are quite worthless if bought later.

For junglers it doesn't work because junglers need to have a great deal of health for sustaining in ganks and the jungle (which is why razors boots kindle locket is pretty much core for every jungler)

The money only plays into effect 25 minutes into the game anyways.

Anyways if you were to buy one, you buy it when you can stay in lane.

When you're a support or a mid laner who can do it really well like Malz.

Sometimes, you just get overdominated, you cannot farm, you cannot kill.

Since you cannot farm, you are just as rich as a support, only one thing: Supports have their gp10 items and gp10 masteries.

If you are really denied, no chance of farming, then I recommend taking the GP10 items.
You can make some real comebacks with them at times.

But other than that, do not take it :P

This is true, I once made some comebacks by buying a lot of Doran's xD

But yeah, the gp10 will allow you to get some awesome things if you survive the early and mid game.

o-o that's a misconception. If you're at the point where you can't even walk into lane the game's over already. The only possible way to have a comeback is to buy cheap items that give effective stats so you can actually duel with the enemy. Buying gp10 will only leave you even more vulnerable as the enemy buys more and more items.

They come standard in most support builds, because they get no/very little farm and kills. The only gold they get is passive, or global via objectives. (ex. Dragon)

If you tend to play assassin characters, GP10 items may be bought when you are behind, but assassins should be ahead in kills, next to the ADC.
