It's been a thing since S3 world's. Basically it just makes Kog really hard to kill. He already does a ton of damage from Bio-Arcane Barrage, so it's more valuable to have the extra health...

"Counters work at any level (less so in competitive because teams play around them and can swap lanes). Some champions have inherent advantages over others. Skill differential will always trump a counter though. If you're a better player than your opponent, you can win any matchup."

Trinity Force is more common. Movement speed (passive and on-hit) is very valuable on Udyr. He can also proc sheen extremely often. I could see BotRK being okay against people like Mundo...
