"Winning is a byproduct of the things that you do before that. Focus on doing the things that enable you to win, not wins themselves." paraphrase of Danyon Toiga
Case in point - If the enemy is sieging your mid base turret and your Mid laner has to go back to the fountain to heal up from being poked down and your Support is trying to set up a
Banner of Command minion in Top lane then you can't engage even if your ADC gets caught. You conceed the tower and inhibitor and wait for your ADC to respawn.

If you are the
Cassiopeia that got themselvs poked down by being overly aggressive. You have to look at that and realize that being overly aggressive put your team in a difficult situation a few minutes later.
If you were the
Kai'Sa that stepped away from the tower and got hooked by
Nautilus without your
Tahm Kench being their to save you, you have to look at that and think "What was my thought process that lead to me being out of position? How can I position better in the future?"
If you were the
Tahm Kench that rotated to Top lane to shove out a wave you need to ask yourself "Was that the best choice?" Because not being with your team at a crucial juncture effectively turned the game on its head.
If you are the full damage
Rek'Sai that dove their back line when your ADC got hooked you have to think "I need to be more aware of all the circumstances at the moment before I go in. Where are my teammates and which abilities (friend or foe) are on cooldown, because I do a lot of damage but I am rather squishy?"
If you were the
Aatrox you have to ask yourself, "Why were you grouped with your fool team rather than splitpushing in a side lane taking towers and inhibitors?" I kid on this last part only because I don't recall what happened to Aatrox other than he died with the three of us that were defending the tower, so I assume he followed me in. So, really his question needed to be roughly the same as mine as Rek'sai. "Well this sucks, but I'm not following that idiot in when we are down two teammates because that will surely lose us the game."
And these are just the immediate things that happened in one particular situation.
League is a game that happens in waves and is about creating mismatches on the map.
The minions waves dictate a lot of what can happen on the map and they spawn at a particular pace.
You establish tempo based on creating mismatches. If the game is mismatched enough then you can simply steam roll your opponents. If not you have to play around things happening on the map:
-A minion wave is crashing into the tower? Tower dive with your jungler.
-Super minions are spawning in Bot lane and are about to hit their base and they have sent one back to deal with the wave? Take Baron or siege another tower.
If you are at the stage of the game where tempo doesn't mean anything to you, that is fine. Work on:
-Last hitting (Get your gold and XP)
-Trading with your laner while keeping your creep score high
-How to best assist your jungler when they gank.
-When to ward
-Where to ward
I could go on, but the list above should convey the idea that there are a lot of things to be done before you put one in the win column, so focus on doing those things well consistently and the wins will come.
