Hey all, Editor TheSofa from dotafire here.

I've been wanting my friends to play DotA with me, yet they've been hooked on League and won't change.

So I decided to see what this game is all about, and I'd appreciate it a lot if you guys could help me.

I'm new here, so please please don't scare me too much.

Thanks in advance,
WearyWanderer

1) No couriers, you have to go back to base to buy items (press 'b' to initiate a 10 second interruptible channel that will teleport you back to base)

2) Only one shop, at base

3) You have to buy champions individually with influence points (ip), or paid riot points (rp).

4) There exists a free week, that puts a few champions out that you can play for free

5) Ability power is a thing

5.5) Ability power is a stat (mostly used on mages) that increases the damage of spells that deal magic damage (generally, there are exceptions). Some spells' damage is increased by attack damage.

6) Generally following the recommended build is okay

7) Kill minions as normal

8) Keep in mind the range for like everything is smaller in lol

9) Slower too

10) Don't buy runes until you're level 20 and can buy tier 3 runes (like seriously the ones before aren't worth it)

11) If you have trouble playing a champion, you can check the guides here on Mobafire (It's similar to dotafire)

69) Skins get wins
(This is 100% false)

That's all I can think of for now, enjoy your stay in the league of legends!

Thanks for the quick reply Vengenator!

1) So... does the 'free-take-me-home' thing have a cooldown or something? And about how long to walk from base to lane?

3) And about how long does it take to buy a champ?

5) Does AP scale well? Doesn't that seem a bit OP? But I guess if everyone has it...

10) thanks for the advice

11) Granted.

A few more questions (sorry!)

What are the stats of League? (ex. Dota has Str, Int, Agi)

What is the relationship between damage and health in league? For ex. (Heroes in DotA have around 550 starting HP and around 100 starting nuke and 60 start AD, so around 1:5 spell and 1:10 attack)

Thanks so much.

1) No CD

3) from 5 to 20 games

5) Scales well, but so do resistances, health and attack damage. And going purely AP isn't the greatest idea

Stats:
Health
Attack Damage
Ability Power
Magic resist
Armor
Critical chance
Critical damage
life steal
spell vamp
Cooldown reduction
Armor penetration
Magic penetration
Movement speed

There are few of those.

The last question needs a long answer, but TL;DR the skills and attacks scale so differently. Some are better when enemy has X or is missing X and some have low base damage but low mana cost and low CD.

Dotafire accounts are portable Soffa ;)))

EDIT: Veng also forgot to mention and that some spells get damage/other effects from your Armor, MR, health or lack of one. Enemy missing health can also increase some spells' damage

Thanks Jani :)

I didn't know that DotAfire accounts were portable. What does that mean and how can I make use of it?

So there's a no-cooldown, free tp back to base? Like, I tp, someone stuns me, then I just tp again?

How is armour/magic resist and armour/magic penetration calculated?

How long does it take to walk from lane?

Yep! It's a 8 second channel that gets interrupted by damage or CC.

damage reduction is calculated with the following formula:
Armor
Armor + 100

This means that at 100 armor, you'll reduce Physical damage taken by 50%, and 200 armor, 66%, so on and so forth. The same applies for Magic Resist

It takes around 20-30s to walk to lane, although it depends on your champion's base movement speed, and whether they have low/no cost abilities that increase their movement speed. For instance, Riven can move considerably fast if she uses her abilities correctly (she has 4 dashes)
If I helped you out, be sure to throw me a +Rep!

Hey all, TheSofa here with the Dotafire login.

Thanks so much for all the replies already, they've been a great help!

I've been watching some professional league games, and there's something I've noticed that bugs me a lot.

In almost every game, they run a 1-1-2 + 1 lane format (1 top, 1 mid, 2 bot, + 1 jungle).

Why is this the case? For example, in DotA, we have many different lane setups:

1-1-1 + 2 roaming supports
1-1-2 + 1 roaming support
1-1-2 + 1 jungle
2-1-2 classic
1-1-3 def. tri
3-1-1 aggro. tri
1-2-2 dual mid

Are these played at all? If not, why not?

Thanks so much in advance,
TheSofa

Ever since I started playing League, it has been that format... I wonder also why is it not that diverse unlike DotA?
Thanks to jhoijhoi for the sig! (Tekken!)

The 1-1-2 plus jungle set up formed from exp is divided between champs near unit deaths, this means it is more beneficial to have as much solo exp as possible, also gold mostly comes from last hits, so this means its best to put 3 people in the lanes, next you put one in the jungle for another "lane" of solo exp and gold but also this allows for additional lane pressure, finally you have one extra person, where it is best if this person gives up farm to allow the others to farm, this makes the support. Putting two bot came about because it allows for better dragon control.
