Hello and welcome to the MOBAFire Patch Summary - 8.17!

Welcome to the patch of buffs. Only a couple items were adjusted this patch along with a slew of small buffs to some underused or underpowered champion. Balance-wise, this patch is pretty light-handed, but we of course have the Nunu & Willump rework included!

The Nexus Blitz alpha test is also receiving a patch with a number of balance changes as well as new content. Check out the official Nexus Blitz patch notes for the full details.

Check out the full patch notes for details on any changes that interest you, and be sure to check out Riot's video summary below!

Updates & Balance Changes

Nunu & Willump are receiving a full visual and gameplay update in patch 8.17! Learn more about the Boy and His Yeti below:

Item Changes

Critical Strike Modifier: 160-200% (at 0-30% crit chance) ⇒ 140-200% (at 0-30% crit chance)
Attack Speed: 25% ⇒ 35%
Attack Damage: 65 ⇒ 60
Proc Damage: 30-200 (at levels 1-18) ⇒ 30-150 damage (at levels 1-18)

Other Changes

  • Summoner Spells
    • Changed a service related to summoner spell configuration. If you haven’t played a particular queue in a couple of months, your summoner spells in that queue may reset to Heal/ Ghost. Just a heads up!

  • Bugfixes
    • Fixed a bug where Phantom Dancer's Spectral Waltz passive would sometimes not trigger.
    • Fixed a bug where Perfect Execution dealt damage to all opponents based on the health of the last enemy struck, rather than calculating damage individually for each.
    • Nature's Grasp's sfx now correctly line up with the ability's duration.
    • Fixed a bug where ranged attacks and targeted projectiles would have their VFX appear from the champion's last seen location, if they were not currently in vision.
    • Deep Sea Nami no longer leaves her spine behind while moving during her recall animation.

Irelia buffs and red Kayn buffs.

Yorick nerfs.

Gangplank massive indirect nerf with Stormrazor.

'nuff said. I think Rito has lost the plot.

I honestly don't understand Riot at times. Why give Annie 50 range back at once? They took it away for a reason. Give her 25 back to start with and see how that goes.

Irelia buffed. New Irelia skin. thinking...

Master Yi buffs. Yuck. If you don't have the CC to deal with him you already have a major problem before the buffs. If you do, probably not going to change much.

Yorick nerfs too harsh.

Kayn buffs :/ He is weak because he often spends the first 14 minutes of the game in a suboptimal form. SA Kayn is kind of cancer already and Rhast is arguably stronger. I get that they want to make the choice meaningful, but it just feels bad to be half a champion for a good portion of the game.

Garen ?nerfs? hahahahaha. Garen is too flipping tanky for the amount of damage he does. They should have hit Courage and/or Perseverance.

Fiora world buff? Not super happy when this champion is META.

Duskblade of Draktharr - AKA we want more counterplay to assassins so we are lowering how much burst they have on tap but we are going to give them an item that gives them more burst. smh

And while I really like having the ward finder + insta deleting passive. It really sucks for the losing team because good luck keeping any wards up especially if they have any another DoD users on their team.

Agreed, Courage is OP. Riot doesn't understand that armor and MR are not symmetrical. 40 armor is fine, 40 MR is too much. Insanity Potion has the same problem, 80 MR for 25 seconds is broken.

But the problem goes deeper with these type of champions being too tanky (Irelia has the same issue). Personally I think Sterak's Gage needs a straight up nerf. The item already gives godlike stats (up to 75 AD and 450 HP), so it shouldn't give a 75% bonus HP (!!!) shield on top of it. That shield can go up to 2000 to 3000, it's completely overtuned. It also lasts way too long (8 seconds!). It's literally a Kayle ulti in practice. Sterak is an AD item that gives more tankiness than tank items.
