Hey everyone, today I'm excited to share with you a sneak peek into the new guide builder that's been in the works for a while now. The builder is a key feature of MOBAFire so we wanted to get some feedback from you guys on the forums ahead of the full release. This is a public beta, so anyone can access it just by slightly editing a URL. Check out the overview below for instructions on how to access the beta features.

TL;DR of how to access the beta:
New Guide Editor

To open the new guide editor, just add ?guide-beta to the end of the URL, like so: https://www.mobafire.com/edit/guide?guide-beta

To open an existing guide in the new editor, add &guide-beta to the end of the editor URL.
Example: https://www.mobafire.com/edit/guide?guide_id=509971&guide-beta (this is the link I'd use to edit my Warwick guide)
NOTE: You cannot save changes to existing guides using the new editor during the beta.

The new editor is more streamlined to help newer guide authors go through the guide creation process step by step. After adding a title and filling out some basic guide information, you can progress to the Build Options tab to piece together your build and then move on to the guide chapters.

Quick note: You can select multiple roles in the Basic Setup tab, so if you have a guide that encompasses more than one role, we've got you covered! ;)

New guide authors should check out the Help tab for guide creation advice, BBCode tips and formatting templates. There are also links to even more helpful resources at the bottom of the Help page if you're looking for more details on a particular aspect of guide creation.

During the beta you can save drafts of new guides and view them to try out the newer features like alternative rune setups and the threats/synergies meter.

New Build Summary (Cheatsheet)

To see an existing guide in the new beta view page, add ?guide-beta to the end of the URL.
Example: https://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/build/paws-claws-amp-jaws-509971?guide-beta

The new build view is wider and a bit more efficient with space, allowing you to fit more of your build on a single screen. You can now add multiple options for runes, summoner spells and ability orders to offer more situational options for your readers without requiring them to dig through the guide text to find them. You can also add custom names for each of your alternative setups to give readers a general idea of when to use different options.

Be sure to check out the new Threat & Synergy meters! Threats are now measured on a scale of 1-5 and we have a new Synergies tool to help you show off your champion's most effective allies. Multiple champions with the same threat or synergy rating will be shown when that rating is selected. You can also click "Show All" to see every matchup and synergy at once if that strikes your fancy.

New Guide Chapters

To see the new beta view for guide chapters, append ?guide-beta&chapters=new to an existing guide URL.
Example: https://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legends/build/challenger-heisendongs-guide-raise-your-what-updated-511689?guide-beta&chapters=new

The guide box is a bit wider and the background has been changed to a deep blue color rather than the legacy black. The width allows for more room for you creative BBCode geniuses out there, or more space for larger graphics if that's more your thing. The new guide chapters also have sleeker headers that better match the contemporary look for MOBAFire.

Check out the Chapters tab in the editor to see our new chapter tools. Chapter headers can now be replaced with images of your choice, if you have headers of your own you'd rather use. You can choose to show the title of the chapter over the image if it's a simple background, or you can hide it if your image has the chapter name included already. This feature allows guide authors who prefer using custom headers to organize their guides using the chapters system instead of resorting to single-chapter guides.

The dimensions of the custom header box are 762 x 125 pixels, so keep that in mind when creating your headers!

If you're concerned about any potential conflicts with the new guide width or background color, don't worry, you can wait as long as you want before turning on the new features. These features are all opt-in, so even when the full version goes live, you can turn on the new guide style whenever you want, or stick with the legacy view if that's your preference.. Your readers will also see whichever view you've selected for your guide.

I hope you guys enjoy tinkering with the new builder. Leave us a comment with your impressions and feedback on the new look and new features. Remember, these features are all opt-in, so you won't have to switch to the new format until you're ready. Let me know if you have any questions! :)

Change is good

Yeeeees, no more one-chapter guides where I can't find what I should modify, this is great.
Just to know, how much larger will be the guide box? You know, for columns purposes

You can fiddle around with it in the editor and see what it looks like. I'm not sure of the exact number but I can probably play around tomorrow and see if I can figure it out if you haven't done so already.

You might also notice the cheatsheet is wider and can fit more items. I believe the current version can fit around 7 items and the new one can fit 9. ^_^

When choosing matchups & synergies - it only shows champion icons from Aatrox to Braum (From my perspective, not sure for others) and there's no sliders or anything to navigate besides a search bar
I hope this section would have some of it to navigate through as I write these sections alphabetically as I can't remember all possible matchups & synergies

dw, take your time, I was just curious lol
Even because, I guess my life was a lie (again): checking my zyra guide I noticed that the dividers (jhoi's dividers) now are... shorter. I mean, I always thought that the guide page was 800px large, but I never noticed that the dividers were 700 px.
tl;dr by a wild guess I think now it's 800 px and previously was 700 px, nice to know, I don't need to change the banners lol
I mean, now I have to change my zyra ToC and that was a nightmare to measure, damn you dev gods

Noticed that, but... I'm not completely convinced. It seems the icons were reduced too (from a 70 to a mybe 50?), for me it's a bit chaotic now with all the items togheter.

I guess the empty space under the spells will be used for the stat shards lol

I'm not a fan of the change on the abilities order, at first impact now the order is a bit less immediate, where with the old one, where everything was more compact, you could see immediatly what you should take when. But maybe it's just my eyes that need to get used to the new format.

I like the new threat meter, now I'll need to work on my synergies :D

And final thing, the blank space beetween the guide header (the one directly the "CHAMPION BUILD GUIDE" title) and the guide itself is the space reserved to the ToC?

For now it looks insane!

I noticed some things that should need a retouch, but overall it's very great I can't wait to update my guides with this!

So first, It should be Morello's Lolicon... Nah seriously the name is just a bit heavy and goes too far.

Then, We should be able to change the position of the build part. This would be less confusing for the readers and more satisfying for the writters.

Then, I'll have to say it, I'm not sure how I feel about this. It's kinda sad because I use a lot of picture from anywhere on the internet (With the source included at the end of the guide) and now I will have to re-edit all of them just to make it looks good :/
I'm not scared of working on that, but I don't think it's ok to edit other peoples' arts and publish them on something like Imgur or anything just to put it in my guide.
If we could import picture directly from our PC to MOBAfire, It would be already

Those are the things I noticed for now, but overall, I really love what I'm trying. I feel like more people who doesn't have any experiences in prog or BBcoding will be able to make guides that looks great.

You can type a single letter in the search bar and it'll show all the champions that start with that letter. If you're going alphabetically, you can do this one letter at a time and everything should be in order.

There are a lot of champions in the game now so I'm not sure if there's an efficient way to show all of them at once. If you have an idea of how you'd want this to work, let me know.

That sounds about right.

I just checked myself and the actual icons are the exact same size. The difference is in the live version, there's a black box around each icon, whereas in the new version that black border is trimmed down (and recolored) so the overall footprint of the icon is smaller.

I feel like they're both readable and the new format has the ability names which is a nice step up. Hopefully you warm up to the new format because I personally like it a lot more. I can accept I might be wrong though, maybe more people can offer their thoughts on the ability order display.

I'm not quite sure where you're referring to but the table of contents isn't quite ready yet and will be coming soon.

@ Rermo99 Morellonomicon is probably the longest single word item name which is why it takes up so much space. Maybe the devs can figure out something to make it fit better so it doesn't invade the space of the item next to it, good catch.

As for build organization, you can accomplish this effect with item groups.

I'm not sure quite what you're getting at regarding using images from the internet. Hosting images directly on MOBAFire sounds like more trouble than it's worth when there are already host sites like imgur which are designed for that purpose.

You don't actually have to publish the image on imgur in the listings. You can just host it there and link to it on the site. Only the people who have the direct link will see the image so it's basically the same result as you hosting it here.

Thanks so much for the feedback so far everyone. Looking forward to getting more thoughts on the new builder so we can make it the best it can be!

@ PsiGuard I didn't saw that thing about group for the item. It's probably the thing I like the most in the beta now xD
Also, I never thought about not posting on imgur now it's gonna be so much more easy to deal with many problem I had with my guide.
Thanks for the reply

Didn't thought of that but having a slider would make it smoother for creators to choose as well :p
