Ok but even though
Death Lotus is not fully area effect (it only hits 3 closest targets not all of them). Other thing is that rylai was working on 35% slow per target as it was considered as single target per dagger thrown (later they fixed it so applies 15%)
although it might be considered as area effect now if they implemented the area as possible range - so rylai would have the correct effect.

I would think of spell vamp classification, rather than rylai's.
Rylai's is specifically changed for some single target spells.
As a general rule, if the spell CAN hit an unlimited number of targets, then it will probably be mitigated by the new evasion mastery.

here's my thoughts. they've said that as it stands as one of the worst masteries in defense, anyway, so: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=1489938 for proof. i just wouldn't get or worry about it.

Well I looked at it through the old
tenacity (where that 4% actually did lower some damage - not much but for 1 point it was enough), but now that I look closely by math point it is kinda not worth those 3 points (different story if it was for 1 point)

should be, I wrote those spells/skills in first post because they are like hitting one target after another (not all at once) and thats the main reason I wasn't sure about it (and

Your idea seems right, but think of skills like Swain's
Ravenous Flock.
You'll hit multiply targets simultaneously, but IMO its not counted as aoe, is it?

Could someone make a list? As this will be very useful information for defensive tree builds.
EDIT: Ok, I'll make list of skills I'm sure and not sure that damage is lowered, for later disscussion.
AoE spell/skill list that I'm not sure:
Most of those skill are doubted because they hit targets one after another, so those are not pure area effect like the ones hitting multi targets at the same time in range, rest has comments en the side.
