Why don't you erase the textures you use that are on top of the render instead of lowering the opacity? And try using Overlay? Also, lol... Potato is spelt wrong :P

Erasing them just makes it look all like...blobby though, if you know what I mean :x
I'm not sure if Overlay works/if it's an option on Elements, but i'll check.

why not try to render the characters? So then you can make backgrounds without messing up the focal/which is the characters. Unless it was already rendered.. then why not just drag your layer behind the render? o.o.
If your butt is too lazy to do it, or you can't.. Then you can always
request someone to do it for you. Like sites like sakurahana nihonomaru <-- not sure if they allow you it, but I'm pretty sure I've seen a site where they did and I think it was one of the sites I mentioned. Or you could as the mobafire community to render it e_e

Honest to god I could not ****ing get textures I used for the BG on the second one any more noticeable without completely ****ing up the focus.
Sometimes I hate opacity -_-
