Idk, it was just there lol.
I used to do a lot of photomanipulation, but I stopped. Today I spent a few hours fiddling with this, trying to make it work:

MissMaw: She is a bit too bright, but it's hard to make her duller without her looking transparent/part of the leaves, luls :P
try putting a grey clipping mask over the top of them. Set it to color and lower its opacity as you see fit. That will dull the colors anywhere from completely to just barely.
EDIT: If you meant too bright as in actual lighting maybe put a dark layer over them. A black or dark brown clipping mask set to overlay might work.
ALSO: Thoughts?

I likes it, I'd wanna see a bit more texture/variety in the background though.
I saw a gimp tutorial which did soemthing along the lines of:
-create a new blank layer
-take your brush tool and find a color which works with the overall color scheme, but slightly darker shade.
-draw random lines, they dont have to be straight lines; following the flow (for this voli one it would be bottom left to upper right) of the piece, then use your smudge tool (with a textured brush head) with medium to high scattering and smudge the lines following their flow.
-Repeat the procees on a new layer using a lighter shade and places those lines in between the ones you just smudged.
Basically I found this while looking for photoshop tuts, the effect is quite nice imo.
