I'm not exactly sure why but I've seen a lot of Sunfire Aegiss lately on champs like Malphite, Shen, Amumu and indeed usually paired with an Abyssal Mask.
I still personally don't like Sunfire Aegis and much prefer the utility a Randuin's Omen or Frozen Heart gives you but I can't deny that I see it a lot lately and it does seem pretty strong.

This tactic is not a "new one"...AND it's incredibly obvious...

I've been building this on and off on such champions for a while now >_>

less now...I'm more inclined to just get some other tanky AP item...

Sunfire cape has had a pretty interesting history. It's probably seeing a resurgence because it was buffed in the Varus patch.

Not a fan of Sunfire Aegis. Even after the buff, the aura is laughable. 55 armor and 470 to 520 hp would make it acceptable, imo.

On Amumu, where I build him that way that I need HP+Armor at the point and need no more MR and more damage.

Which single item is more usefull if you need a combination of a magic damage aura, HP and Armor? Buying items is most of the time not about cost efficiency, it is about what you need. And how they scale with other items which you build.
