Well, im playing with veigar for a while, and I think the best way to start, is with a dorans and 2 healh potions, and the first time you go back, you buy a tear and boots, and maybe wards if you think you need, and farm a lot.
After you get tear, you can harass a lot more, and the easiest way to kill someone is to first use you combo stun>matter>Q, you will probably do a lot of damage, enough to leave your enemy with 50 ou 60% hp, and then you just have to wait for you stun again, and then do the same but now you use your ult, that's so easy....
I think most players dont know veigar so well, because i think hes very easy to counter, because hes very slow and so dependent of his stun, but if you let him farm, he will almost win a team fight alone.
Very good guide btw =)

in the Offense tree why did you click "brute force"? That only gives you AD but Veigar is an AP character

Yeah but the Veigar stun is the only thing that can stop ennemies, i can't protect my carry if stun on CD and if i have no armor / health when the game start (i have no shield, no sustain, and i'm far from being tanky if i don't get armor... and with all the ward i need to buy i can't build fast)... This is why i build CDR and armor, but, yeh, you're also right.

You shouldn't need defensive marks or masteries on support veigar. Abuse your stun and range. It would be rather silly to play a support mage and bring armor marks instead of magic pen.

Thank you Sirell, but the thing is Veigar is really squishy, even more than Janna in early game. So i was thinking about armor marks and seals, and go for CR for the masteries, plus some defense and max utility.
But if i don't die, Veigar is such an aggressive support, it's surprising not to play him in mid ^^

Playing as a support Veigar, max E then Q for maximum harass. Masteries should be 9/0/21. Runes should be MS Quints or GP10 Quints, MPen Marks, Armor Seals, Magic Resist Glyphs.

The method of play is just to harass the enemy and deny them from farming. Take some CS whenever your ADC is not in lane. Build an early Chalice of Harmony or Morellonomicon in addition to GP10s and Sightstone. Complete by building whatever else your team needs - Runic Bulwark, Frozen Heart, Locket of the Iron Solari, etc. If you are snowballing well, build AP items instead - Zhonya's Hourglass, etc.

You shouldn't really be playing support Veigar. Veigar is a farming champion; if you can't farm, you fall off hard. You can still do some damage to the enemy AP carry with Primordial Burst, but you're better off in mid lane.

Hey! I literally just created an account on here to vote up and post this! I've been following your guide for about 2 days now trying out Veigar, my first time ever going Mid (I usually go for more tank/support). I've been following your guide and have gotten great results, and just did a game 26/0/11... which is why I thought I'd take the time to do all this =P

Just some screenshots to show the results!
Great guide, and thanks again!

All-around pretty standard Veigar stuff, although I gotta say the Tear is pretty horrible since you rely on one successful spell rotation. DFG rush will win you more games if you know how to combo.

It's an alternative to Chalice of Harmony against AD mids or farm lanes if you can't use the MR. You don't really need it but it's a pretty small investment and basically gives you infinite sustain. Mostly I just like the mid-late game Seraph's Embrace because you'll be squishy as hell and the shield is really helpful against assassins with gap closers. I've been really liking the seraph's-zhonya's combo lately. Plus you get a ton of AP from those two items.

But it's not core. The only three items I consider core are DFG, zhonya's and void. DFG is pretty much always my first complete item.
