So I've only playing LoL about 1 week now and I honestly don't have much knowledge about the flow and common strategies for this game.
I've been reading guides and checking out the threads within the New People section and it has helped me understand a lot. The things I don't understand are the basic/common strategies and roles etc that are used within the game. I see talk about junglers and support champions etc, but I honestly have very little knowledge about what these terms actually mean when it comes to the competitive strategies of the game.
I was just wondering if someone could help me understand the game a little better. I think this will help me improve much faster because I will actually understand what I'm doing in-game!
Cheers!
It's quite easy to understand the game my dear summoner i got used to in in a week 3 years ago XD.
I will tell you what you will know
starting with The Roles.
- Tank(Mostly Solo Top/Jungle Ex:
Garen): A tank is the defence of the team(mostly the one with the most armor and Magic resist) he builds HP(
Frozen Mallet),Armor(
Thornmail),Magic Resist(
Quicksilver Sash) for example.
- AD Carry(Ex:
Ashe, the AD Carry is the main damage of your team the one that can kill your enemy's (mostly) the easiest its mostly build AD items and attack speed like
Infinity Edge,
Phantom Dancer he farms(taking down low hp minions for gold) for the best items suitable for the champ he plays and enemy team.
- Jungle(Ex:
Amumu, The gank(er)(specialist), the champion who rules the Jungle on your side of the game, when your lane needs help he comes to gank(coming from behind the enemy, to do damage together for easy kill) so you can farm and push further to gain victory.
- Ap Carry (Mid ex:
Ryze) the AP damage of your team, he Mostly takes out the ad carry of the enemy down so the Ad carry or hisself can kill the rest of the enemy(He is the main Ap damage of your team)
- Support(Ex:
Janna) The Suppporter of your Ad carry(You Don't farm) he heals,Buffs(Gives movement speed , attack speed etc.) the ad carry(don't take kills either) makes the ad carry survive as long as possible for the victory of the team . Supports mostly take supportive items(Items for Aura,Pushing Ex:
Banner of Command)
Shameless advertising: Click the link that says "new to LoL?" and it may help you, I've updated it today :)

Read a guide. All the way. Learn about a specific character that caught your eye and try playing them (bonus: if the champion you want is free or very cheap). Learn their niche and then expand, don't try to absorb it all at once.
Don't even worry about roles yet. Most people talking about them are describing the way the game is played at summoner level 30. At lower levels, the game is full of people who honestly have little to no idea what they're doing, so it rarely resembles higher-level play. What you should do now is just find a champion that you enjoy playing and try to get as good as possible with that champion.
You're unlikely to see any junglers in your games until at least level 20, because jungling without tier 3 runes isn't a very good idea.

My posts may be long. If this bothers you, don't read them.

Just play more and you'll understand more.
Don't go too deep into researching without playing; you will definitely be misleaded.
Just take note of what most pros say and collaborate them together. ask questions to others when needed
most important thing is just to play more

as you play, you learn more.
researching can only tell you so much. the rest is dependent on you.
