Uh, no, I'm pretty sure it's about conveying information in a fashion that readers can actually see and understand easily. The badges are nice, but in (for example) all the business at the top of guides, it's more helpful to highlight it more.

The reward for elo is status, not "pretty avatars."

then there are many ways you can do that, like putting a big symbol in the persons guide showing that the person has a certain elo. putting it in the forums as well is just elitist, your deliberately separating your members into who is gold and who isn't and making sure no one can ignore that. i can very easily see that your elo is 1723.

elitism - The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority

if your objetive is to turn this in a elitist community then theres nothing i can do, but if thats not you want then why would you even consider putting this feature? elitist communitys suck real bad

Elitist would be giving 1500+ people the power to delete other people's comments. If someone has gone to war and fought for his country and got a medal of honour, should he not be allowed to wear it in public? Will all the citizens who haven't been to war find him elitist for wearing the badge?

If he then made a club and didn't allow anyone else in except war veterans, perhaps that could be considered elitist. But anyone can get a border around their avatar. All it takes is hard work and perseverance.

How is showing someone's elo through decorative borders showing elitism?

It's not like they have any special privileges once they become bordered.

afaik the only thing different from a sub-1500 and a gold elo+ player on this site is if his or her guide shows up as featured. And the featured guide tab doesn't even force you to read those guides over the un-featured ones, you have to manually select the tab.

I don't even see how this separates gold elos from no elo players. They're both allowed to post in the same forums, right? How are they separate in any way?

no, the icon you have now would be like the war veteran with the medal. you can see it and acknowledge it and even buy him a hotdog if you care. a border would be like putting a giant sign over him at all times saying he's a war veteran.
this icons let me see it if i'm interested and its not obtursive. a border is rubbing it in my face and forcing me to see it every single time I open the forum and read one comment from you. it would be like someone constantly shouting to anounce is elo to everyone around him

but hey, i said it before, if you want an elitist community that differentiates peoples skill based on lol then do it, but then you'll be no different form solomid. elitist community, elitist guides. who wants to see what someone with no rating thinks of the game when theres someone with platiniume right next to it? i was gona make a guide, but now that if besides having to compete with guides who are already at the top i also have to compete with the guides sayiing "hey, this guy is unskilled and the other one is" then why bother? the ability to write a guide has nothing to do with your elo in game.

so just answer me this: why do you want to be like solomid?

It takes hard work and perseverance to get to gold+, I think that getting a nice border from MobaFire for winning 1500 elo would be a really nice award :)

Wait, so an icon below your avatar is perfectly fine, but a border is suddenly elitist and makes us like solomid?

I think you're jumping to extremes here, sir.

We don't necessarily want to but it is what people seem to want. MOBAFire is a business, not simply a forum. Although, personally I disagree with that it'd make us look like solomid.

right now your providing the information. if i want to know your elo i can easily see it, and thats good. in another your no longer just providing the info, your separating your members into who can play better or worse.
it's like having everyone wear a different colord scarf IRL depending on the income. oh, you make 100k$ a year? heres a yellow scarf. you make 1 million? heres a platinum scarf. you don't have a job, well no scarf for you!
would you like that? to be constantly compared with everyone else who makes more money than you?
