So I'm fairly new to LoL and I've taken it upon myself to focus on learning how to play top. Most of the time I play Zed, occasionally Jax and I'm thinking of adding Renekton to the mix. Last game I laned against Caitlyn and Wukong and got destroyed. I couldn't get close enough to get creep kills and when Wu got his teeth in to me I was pretty much dead.

So the question in general is, how do you deal with difficult lanes when you NEED to farm without dying?

sometimes you just have to wait for the lane phase to end without dying to much and focus on farm later in the game really only viable if you didn't die much early game, And the other team isn't dominating team fights.

There's nothing wrong with letting them push to the tower and farming there. If the odds are so badly stacked, then you might as well try to keep yourself alive. Gold will build up eventually, but dying gives them more gold and costs you exp.

Stay alive in the beginning so you can stay alive in the end.

So far, I'm competent with: Riven, Sona, Ahri

I'm still learning: Akali, Katarina, Irelia, Sejuani, Vi, Ashe, and Vayne

As you play more and more games and get to level 30, you'll end up playing top lane by yourself, so you won't be in 2v1 or 2v2 situations. For now, choose champions who can sustain 2v1, like Swain, Nasus, Warwick etc. Someone tanky that can take a little harass, but regen quickly.

Like the two above me said, let the lane push to your tower and farm under it. When the lane pushes out to enemy tower, go and farm wolves/double golems, whichever side you're one.

When 2v1, I wouldn't try harassing them. But when 1v1, "scratch damage", wherein a little harass now and then between CSing really determines whether they can engage on you or not. If you've lowered them to half health via random trades, they're less likely to be able to go all in on you, in fear of losing the engage.

If they do go all in on you on low health, it could be a sign that a gank is imminent.

Lastly, take an escape summoner top lane, whether it be Ghost, Flash or even Teleport.

Thanks for the helpful replies guys, reps given! As a newb the cornerstone of my strategy is "don't feed, whatever you do". I die a lot of times by playing too aggressively, be it harassing or going for CS with too low of health and not returning when I should. I'm going to apply this stuff and see how it goes!

hai

in th lower levels 2v1 top lane is pretty common and in a higher levels it becomes common again as lane swaps become common..

i play Jax and Zed a lot and this is how i typically deal with 2 v 1 situations

Jax - dont use your E as much as possible ... it is what stops them from diving you as they fear being stunned under tower.. and Jax is bad a 2 v 1 situations until lategame .. so just farm under tower... you will out level them and eventually out scale them too

Zed is actually ok 2 v 1 and with a jungle gank you can go for kills around lvl 6 if you farm ok.. Max your Q so you can farm from range .. you can throw in some harass too with your Q... remember not to use your W when you dont have to as it is a good way to avoid ganks and sticky situations..

the key is farming under tower .. and not pushing your lane - you wont be really relevant until laining ends but if you play catiously, your team will be stronger for it

i know nothing useful about renekton..... :(

if you watch lcs you see what is called lane swaps quite a bit. This is the most common place to find it on a stream. When i first started playing this is what I watched to find out how the pros dealt with those situations. Of course now its just crazyness in lcs laning phase lol.
